Bendix injection on PPonk in 180, Approved

I first started looking at injection in 2022, ran into person after person telling me it couldn't be done. I gave up on it for a couple years and then saw all the parts for sale on Barnstormers, the guy that had it all for sale had a contact for someone to get the approval. I didn't think much of it, but I inquired.

The approval has been secured, I'll have the physical documents as soon as I pay for it.

Now, to start accumulating parts and figuring out what to do with instrumentation.

Wow. A fuel system field approval can’t be trivial to get. Nice work. Will be really curious to learn exactly what is done to retrofit an early wagon. Bendix is returnless, right? Was that system used on other 470 installations?

Is it BJ Custom in Alaska that has the approval?

Re: Bendix injection on PPonk in 180, Approved

System uses an accessory pad engine driven pump, firewall mounted electric pump, Precision Airmotive fuel servo. Pretty straightforward install from what I know so far, but I have not installed one. I think its the same system that would be on a 540 Lycoming.

Now for those parts, anyone have a servo laying around, or a Romec fuel pump, or Weldon electric pump? For cores.

I redid my panel about 5 years ago, not sure how I'm going to add the fuel flow, Cessna dual MP and fuel flow unit, or a 930. I want to keep my fuel totalizer, but don't like the idea of two transducers, but I don't think I can fit a 930 in the space the 830 is in now. Has to be primary, 830 is not. Maybe I'll just add a fuel pressure gauge and stick with the non-primary fuel flow?

You don’t want that Cessna dual gauge and its associated plumbing (my opinion) in your panel. Seems the move is to ditch that other stuff and upgrade to the 930, all the indications required could be configured in it.

Did Bob provide any additional installation instructions besides the ancient drawings from the bendix STC?

I saw the Bendix system on an early Pponked 180 several years ago and thought it looked like a good, relatively easy to do set up if you could get the eds to accept it. I think it was used on some pipers, and probly others. Many backcountry guys seem to favor carbs for easier hand proping if the battery goes dead. and fewer issues with hot starts.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Is that instrumentation (in particular, the cessna MP/FF gauge) required by the approval?
If not, I'm sure there's alternatives that fill fit in your panel.
