Beringer Aero is a BCP sponsor

Please welcome Beringer Aero as our newest advertiser/sponsor.

Most well known as makers of the iconic red anodized billet wheels and brakes with floating disc design, they have numerous other innovative products in the STOL/bush plane space, such as the ALG Alaskan Landing Gear integrated shock gear legs, the Shock Wheel independent suspension units, and B'FLEX gear legs. Definitely some cool stuff.

While based in the southeast of France, Beringer does have a US distributor in South Carolina. Visit their website at https://www.beringer-aero.com/en.

They've even got an 8" wheel/brake solution for the Desser 27.5 tire:

It's coming soon. Already approved in Europe. Just waiting on the FAA. Follow Bowen Aero LLC, a Beringer dealer for latest info.

It appears they're approved now: https://www.beringer-aero.com/sites/beringer-aero.com/files/faa_approval_sa00026ib.pdf

Still trying to track down the price of a kit including 3 6" wheels, certainly I'll be very disappointed in the price. Going to email a couple dealers just to be sure.

Cool stuff, I'm sure it's pricey but it looks like the STC kits replace the entire brake hydraulic system plus the axle. Any idea what the weight difference is?

Re: Beringer Aero is a BCP sponsor

I managed to find the installation Instructions for the 180/182 kit: https://www.beringer-aero.com/sites/beringer-aero.com/files/ica-stc-02201.pdf Lots of nice pictures in there.

They claim the total weight of the kit is 25Lbs. My hunch is that's very close in weight to the parts to be removed.

I'm thinking the increase in sexy factor makes up for the lack of weight savings... :P

Beringer's high performance motorcycle braking systems are superb.

I had no idea they make aviation products too. They don't seem to skimp when it comes to design and production.

Re: Beringer Aero is a BCP sponsor

After some emails back and forth I’ve come up with this for the 182 kit:

STC-022.1 with fairings - $4,420.00

STC-022.2 without fairings - $4,147.00

The kit does not come with wheel fairings, just that if you have them or not on your aircraft you need the right kit.

However, and this is a big however for me, the kit only provides a 5” inch nose wheel. It would take them developing a different axle to be able to use one of their 6” wheels.

Would it look unacceptably funny to still be running a 6” Cleveland nose wheel with 6” berringer mains? I dunno…

Fired off an email to Beringer about this tonight too ---

I've got Beringer on my Lancair, love them, cut my stopping distance in half. Really want them on my 170 but no STC for the 170. However, I have 180 gear installed on the plane. So.....field approval? Looking for input. thanks everyone.

Is there an STC for the 180?

EDIT - With a little extra reading I see that Halestorm was way ahead of me on this...

The 180 is listed in the install instructions for STC - 022 (See page 3)

Re: Beringer Aero is a BCP sponsor

Yeah that's the rub. The STC is for the type, which is a 170. But I have 180 gear. So the STC doesn't apply, that's cut and dry. But since I have 180 gear could I get field approval, and has anyone done it?
