Best iPad App for Maps and More?

In June I purchased the IFR Flight Guide App for my ipad which included all charts and approach plates.

It was initially fantastic, but they recently changed their name to eKneeboard (bought out or merger?) and it is now totally unreliable, often shuts down, or will not even open at all. You are allowed to have it installed on two (2) devices, and eKneeboard is not working on either of my iPads.

I have the Garmin GTN 750 and Garmin 796 with XM weather which is phenomenal, but I like the idea of a third back-up which is why I also carry the iPad.

I need another IFR App, and was wondering which ones you like and why.

Thanks in advance.....................Rob

Have you updated to 7 on your ipad, they might not have all the bugs worked out for the new OS #-o
Also double click on the home button and close everything else and see if that helps if you have not already.
I am still waiting to down load 7
I have FFlight WingX and FlyQ on mine kinda seeing which I like best, I end up using FF the most.

The iPad 2 and the iPad Air are both on the latest iOS.

I removed the App, reloaded, and then re-downloaded the charts/areas I require. I have had to do this more than once in the past which I deem unacceptable.

It now works but is still buggy.

Thanks for the input!

I think I've tried them all (it seems that way anyway), and I like ForeFlight the best by far!

Re: Best iPad App for Maps and More?

I have only used Foreflight. I was one of those "paper forever" people, never to go to an EFB. But my regular CFII went electronic for his personal flying, and it seemed like the thing to do. Well, I've shut off my paper subscription, if that means anything.

I have Foreflight Pro, with a Stratus II feeding weather and traffic to it, and I absolutely love it--it's so much easier navigating than with paper charts. Both charts and approach plates are geo-referenced, so you can see your airplane on the chart. The weather can be placed on any of the charts, and now you can also put the approach plate on the enroute chart.

It's a super program, and the tech support people are very responsive. I haven't had any issues, but I have emailed them a couple of times with ideas and questions, and they have answered within a few hours.

Re: Best iPad App for Maps and More?

I've just pulled the trigger on an Iphone 5s. I really doubt I'll ever use all the features of this thing but I bought it instead of an android specifically for Itunes and foreflight. As the 701 gets close to flying I'll probably build the nav system out of an Ipad. Hopefully by then foreflight will have integrated engine management into the feature set.

I started out with WingX because it was the only app at the time that displayed obstacles. Then I added Foreflight to the mix because it was and continues to be by far the most feature rich app. When Foreflight added obstacle support I dropped WingX.

Thank you for the excellent feedback.

It looks like FF is quite popular so I will give it a try.

Like everyone else, I use and love Foreflight.

That being said, does anyone have any feedback on the Garmin Pilot app? The new Garmin D2 watch and it's ability to sync with the app makes for an interesting combo.
