9.5:1 pistons give 160 hp in an O-300. It would take 11.0:1 to make 165 hp. Don't think I'd push it to 11.

Re: best lines heard at a fly in

Just want to say I have been lurking the last few days using this sight for some research for designing some back country airstrips in MS FSX and had to comment on this. This is a great site and plan to visit often.

So pretty much now every time I give someone a ride I end with that statement.

Back in 1999 while doing my solo long I headed into TTD with a straight tail C150E. At the FBO there, I went inside to ask about getting fuel and this older gentlmen says to me, "Wow, I'm surprised to see that old 150 still airworthy. Where are you coming from?" I laughed and then said "I am down from Renton on my solo long." He then said "Well good luck to you on the way home. Keep your eyes out for a good spot to land." I just shook my head and head into the office. That old grungy 150 was great fun.

They still are! :D
I took my brother for a ride and when he saw my plane he said" You really fly that thing?" What it lacks in looks, it makes up for in potential! \:D/

Since we're digressing a little here, one of the 172s I used to rent had more holes in the upholstery than most Swiss cheese, along with missing instruments and radios from the panel. The paint was so faded that it was hard to tell it was painted, nad he N number was consequently barely visible. But what was left worked, and the airplane flew great. Its engine only had a few hundred hours on it, and it was meticulously maintained--it just looked awful.

I also used to rent a 182 from the same FBO, and it was likewise ratty looking, a solid 2 both in and out. It still had a Northstar LORAN-C in it, which worked but of course wasn't usable. Well maintained mechanically, it looked like a junk yard derelict. But I flew it all over the country, and it was a good, reliable if ugly airplane. The funny thing, which I never understood, is that with all of its rattiness, the owner wouldn't allow me to bring my dog along!

Omnivision man! Your ticket into the future of Cessna Aviating. I still like those little farts. I remember fooling around in the pattern with my instructor back in my student days with one of those while a full blown storm raged. Lock to lock on the yoke and pedals and hydroplaning all over the runway on TO and LNDg. The guys in the tower much have called the flight school because the chief pilot got on ground frequency and hauled us in for a lecture. We told them we were practicing "wheel landings".
