Re: Best Oil???

There's a reason proponents of the Phillips oil also strongly recommend use of Cam Guard: that oil lacks the corrosion protection agents present in Aero She'll or Exxon oils. I still use Cam Guard because it provides additional corrosion protection in addition to that provided by Aero Shell or Exxon Elite.

Draw your own conclusions.

Ok I will.

If you frequent the AOPA forums you will see Ed Kollin (1TJ), chemical engineer and designer of Camguard, show up from time to time when the BS meter jumps off the charts. It usually starts when someone proclaims that Exxon Elite provides all of these wonderful benefits that preclude any use of Camguard because it is the "same" additive package. That really gets him excited.

He will repeat the story of working for Exxon and developing an astounding additive package that was rejected by top brass based on cost margins. They opted for a cheap additive package, actually a "clone" - his words - of Aeroshell 15W-50 and marketed it as a premium oil. The package is anything but premium... the cost is the only premium. He knows this stuff.

He will also repeat his findings that Phillips 20W-50/XC + Camguard produced the best results at the best price point of any oil that they have tested.

Don't take my word for it, read his posts over there-
