Best Thing About This Site

First I will qualify the the best for me at my stage of life and flying. The social part.

My example is that just before this summer my wife announced that she had a women's conference in two weeks. For me that means a free fun ticket. So I posted "hey anybody up for a potluck at Garden Valley" I met a bunch of folks for the first time and of course Rob Burson spent two night. there. I baked a bunch of clams for the pot luck and made crepes in the morning for all.

I think this feature needs to be used a bit more.

Thanks all for the sitten around the campfire and enjoying a weekend.

Glad to hear it was a success. I had to work but am always keeping an eye on the back country from the 30's! Of course this trip put me flying back and forth over Idaho for several days, listening to everyone have all the fun..

Agreed! There's no substitute for meeting people in person. 9 times out of 10 somebody who rubbed me the wrong way in the forum ends up being a friend after meeting in person. Met a lot of great people over the years of BCP. The Johnson Creek fly-ins were some great memories. Something special about being so focused here. Never experienced that on social media, personally.

Vicariously, I'd like to see more BCP members organizing fly-outs and get-togethers. I guess I've landed at the far end of the social thing where I try to avoid crowds and gatherings when I'm flying, but it's hard to beat a really small fly-out with friends.

Dreadful partisanship there..... And by the way, I am a participant in the federal govmint’s Witless Protection Program. So, any public appearances are by a body double (who’s a bit less svelte than I) and no photos are allowed.

It’s difficult to convey emotion or humor over words on a screen. It is really easy to piss people off unwittingly at times (sorry). I know I’m not the best at it.

I will say that it was really neat to meet a couple of our guys here in real life. My hangar neighbor knew about my 185 project before I even introduced myself because of BCP. And even closer one of my A&P school friends is an avid browser of BCP. I’m still trying to get Drew to make an account over here though. He’s only interested in reading the Bearhawk project threads #-o

I agree with Tim and Zane. I also miss the unofficial BCP fly in at Johnson Creek when it was small. Before raffles, permitting from Idaho. When RobertC made ice cream. The ringing of the dinner bell.

Good times

interesting. Been just the opposite with me and ZZ. We met in person at my ranch about 15 years ago and got along fine. Then we got irritated with each other on the forum. I think he needs to fly down and land on my strip so we can start afresh. :D :D

Re: Best Thing About This Site

As teachers/instructors, we tend to be milder with the student in the cockpit because we are trying to move from where he is to where he wishes to be. In writing, however, we are more idealistic.

Because I am old and wearing out physically, I appreciate the opportunity the site gives me to present some techniques I feel, idealistically, are important.

We get along great on the phone too. Internet is not so great for mixing some people. 8)
