Big engine sound from the Rotax 912

I saw this and it totally cracked me up! They have a built in sound system linked to the engine controls that simulate the sound of a, in this case, Merlin, starting up (complete with a mini smoke system that puts out a puff on startup) and then varies with the throttle to continue the mimicry, right down to the shut down. Amazing, and what an airplane, note the carbon molded rivet dimples for true authenticity, wow  100 % carbon fiber, let's hope they next make a authentic replica of a Beaver. http://www.fk-lightplanes.com/news.php?ln=2&id_g=2 And check out that nifty two holer open cockpit, I really like the way this company thinks.

I have already contacted them, and am working on a system so that my S-7S will reproduce the sound of a Lycoming 0-320. It will be complete with an oil mister that will streak the belly and drip on the hangar floor for added realism. =D>

This plane is a big hit at the Aero Friedrichshafen aviation trade show in Germany. It looks like way too much airplane to push through the air with 100 HP. Even with all carbon fiber construction, there will be a lot of drag given the scale of the construction. Adding the weight of a sound system to get the rumble of a Rolls or Merlin engine would make it a better static display than a good flying toy. I'll be happy to check it out from the sidelines, but I'll stick with flying a plane that has internals that actually go with the outer shell. No gimmicks for this kid.

I did see an ad for demo flight in an actual P-51 at Sun-N-Fun. It was $1,995 for a flight, but that is better than the $2,400 charged by Stallion 51 in Florida. Neither one is in my price range. I can do a lot of flying in my Maule for that wad of cash.

The company seems to have a "for real" track record, you saying they bs'ing us? Point being, it may LOOK like too much airplane, but if their performance figures can be believed, and I see no reason why not (an established company with a good track record, seem to be well capatilized) I see no obvious red flags with their claimed performance #'s. Pretty light empty weight and it looks pretty low drag. But yeah I totally agree it is pretty gimmicky, but hell if they can pull it off more power to them. I actually like the little low winger with the two separate cockpits better, it has a retro look with all carbon contruction, just looks cool to me. But I wouldn't buy it either, not my cup of tea, cool none the less.
