With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

It's hard to imagine staying that calm under the circumstances. When I lost my engine 8 1/2 years ago, though, I was told later that I sounded really calm on the radio, although I can guarantee I was not calm inside!
