Bought myself a graduation present

Seemed like it took forever but I finally finished up my Instrument rating a couple of weeks ago. Kinda surprised by the enormity of it........ It was DAMNED tough!

Anyway, to celebrate I pulled the trigger on a plane I'd been watching on BS for a few months. It's not the 185 I was convinced I had to have but it'll do nicely nonetheless. :D

If I hadn't had the help of Todd Hitchcock guiding me through this process I would have bailed!!!! Like 5 times! Big shout out to Todd!!! Highly recommend him if your looking to buy or sell.

Anyway, he just sent me a pic of my new bird all snug and cozy in his hanger after flying it back from Colorado. He just landed an hour or so ago.

Now she'll get some avionics upgrades and I'll head up and bring her to Texas in 6 weeks or so. Gonna be a tough wait but very worth it.

Congratulations on your new ride!

Personally, I would wait for winter to do the upgrades and fly the heck out of it in the meantime.

Summer in TX means hot and bumpy.
If I was in ID then it would be a no brainer!!

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

What kind of Avionics Upgrades will you be installing?

TCAS, GTN-750, Synthetic Vision?

You already have an awesome platform in the 206, and state of the art avionics will only enhance that.

750 and 650 with all the add ons for XM and ADS-B, transponder and audio. EI MVP 50. Was thinking Aspen but had the chance to fly behind one today and didn't like it. I'll wait til the HSI dies then do a G500......maybe.
Next mod will be Sportsman and tip tanks m thinking tho

Wife votes for AC!!!!

Beautiful!!!

Does the S. STOL kit and Wing-X work on the newer ones? ;-)

EDIT: I just saw where you posted about the STOL kit and tip tanks, great minds think alike!

Get the Garmin GTN-750 Simulator App which is free for 30 days, then around $25.00 to purchase.

I did this when I purchased my Maule, and when it came time to fly it across the country, I was very comfortable with its operation and abilities to fly IFR the entire way home. (CA to NH)

I highly recommend the Avidyne TAS 600 for real traffic information to compliment the GTN-750.

It gives you tremendous situational awareness especially in congested areas.

Can't wait to see more pictures of your new acquisition!

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

My family grew up in a C206, mom, dad, three kids and 2-3 dogs, all over California and Baja. It was great to taxi up for fuel with the tail almost touching, nose strut fully extended and shut down. Open the cargo doors and kids, dogs and sandwich wrappers start falling out and blowing away. Good times.

All you need is a really good autopilot that will follow the HSI and give you GPSS capability, all the other stuff is just pretty blinking lights. It's a great plane, have fun!

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

Congratulations SV! What a beautiful looking bird. Looks a lot like the one I sold a couple of years ago. I love it to death, but sold it because I'm looking to get a C185 Amphib which I'm negotiation now. If it wasn't for that drastic change, I would still have my 206. Great plane. Enjoy!!

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

Thank you very much gentlemen!

Someone once told me " buy your last plane first".

I think it'll work for us for a looooong time. Only has 800 hrs ttl time on it.

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

Congratulations!! Hard to go wrong with a T206.

Ditto on the TAS system. The TAS-600 has a range of 7 miles, the TAS-605 has a 13 mile range. Consider bigger range if you can afford it. FYI the closure rate head-on with a Jet is about 11 miles in 1 minute. It's VERY nice to have the situational awareness when a target's closing on you at that speed.
