Re: Bought myself a graduation present

I'm going to guess that for most of the flying that you are going to do, the 206 will beat the 185 almost every time.

The 206 is a better instrument airplane as well. You are going to love/love that plane. Sometimes the 185 is a love/hate relationship.

Curious,...why the 750 and the 650? Commercial operations?

Congrats! There aren't many things you can't do with a 206, and that looks like a beautiful one.

Congrats SV!

When you put a new transponder in it make sure you get the "ES" version of the Garmin 330, this gives complete ADSB capability in addition to other ADSB components such as the GDL88.

No commercial ops just the fact that GPS is the future of instrument flying. VORs and ILSs will go away. I also like redundancy. Sure I could fly it for a while as is but I'll need to do something in the next few years to be compliant anyway.
It has a 530 non waas and the trade in value right now is very strong. I feel like the combo of steam gauge six pack and glass nav is the best of both worlds. Some may disagree

If not required, consider putting the money from the 650 into the G500 or nextgen Garmin PFD/MFD (easy for me to say), but seriously, if money is somewhat of a concern, I honestly don't think you will find using both GTNs that useful. As you know, you will find a second Nav/Comm or just a Comm very useful, but I don't think paying for a 650 to have a second comm makes sense if not mandated by the regs.

VORs and ILSs may go away, but probably not soon. If you like redundancy, it's being able to make an approach when GPS RAIM predictions are unfavorable and the GPS satellites are down (2 GPSs aren't going to help here). Whether or not VORs/ILSs go away doesn't really matter to you anyway since you would have a VOR/ILS receiver for your 750.

I hope you end up doing the G500/750/ADS-B/MVP.

Photos please.

Re: Bought myself a graduation present

We've got the GTN750 in our 185 and I've been completely blown away by it. I think our long-term plans will probably involve the MVP50, GTN750/650 combo and G500 upgrades to the 185 AND the Bush Hawk... You know, for standardization - it's a safety thing! :D :D
