BRS Systems in a Bearhawk Experimental – Just Curious

I'm just curious if incorporating BRS is on the radar screen of any Bearhawk Patrol or Just Superstol XL builders? The normally LSA-configured Just SuperSTOL, can of course be built beyond the LSA 1320 limit and registered as a non-LSA. like the Bearhawk Patrol,

I was reading about IAS vs TAS at altitude, and Vne with critical flutter speeds. Ken Krueger has this interesting article titled:

Anyway, here is a BRS system for the Vans RV9 offered by Aircraft Spruce

Here is yet another link to another BRS source.

A quick search for projects or completed EAB aircraft with BRS systems (specifically back country type aircraft) did not result in much. I know the Just SuperSTOL can land/slam down almost vertically at about the same rate of descent as a parachute  , but not if there has been a structural failure from a nasty gust, bird strike, etc.

Anyone planning for a BRS system as part of their build?

Re: BRS Systems in a Bearhawk Experimental – Just Curious

The topic came up on the old Bearhawk Yahoo group some years ago. As I recall, someone contacted a manufacturer and found that it would be on the order of $30k to add one, based on the weight of the airplane. It seemed to be one of those systems that increased dramatically in cost as the weight went up. Maybe things have changed since then though.

FWIW, the STC'd version from BRS for 172s and 182s (specific years/models only) runs about $15,000 plus installation and weighs about 80 lbs. It takes up about half of the normal baggage area excluding any extended baggage area.
