I have no knowledge of that prop, but just put a new 86 inch 401 on my 185F. Makes a lot of noise, but gets off the water a lot better than the 80 inch 3 blade land prop I was running. Steve

I have the 82 inch Bucaneer on one of my 206s. I worked up a flight test and flew it against my 86 in 2 blade Mac. It has been a long time but I think something like 150fpm climb improvement, 5 knots speed improvement. I was concerned about blade errosion but the first 800 hours off of asphalt barly a chip in the paint on the prop. That was taxing at gross 3 times per hour. The last 500 hours have been off gravel and sand with lower time pilots. starting to show paint chips and a little (very ) blade errosion. This is nothing compared to my 80in Hartzell top prop, or my Mac Pencil 3 blade. The top prop looks like it pulls in rocks from 6 ft away. The Mac got a nice ding during pilot training off gravel. I believe the sweeping tip recovers tip vortice energy reducing the tornado that pulls in rocks. I use the airplanes for skydiving and need the climb performance. I think the Bucaneer has been working great but since it was my money. I often look at the Big Mac (401/ 402s I think) and wonder what the performace would be. I like the new composite Hartzells. Saw one on a Pitts and the owner said it was $30k?

Thread bump, anyone using one of these (8068 blade) Hartzells on an IO 520 C185? Be interested in hearing your thoughts on it performance wise. They seem to go by many names New Scimitar, Buccaneer (Texas Skyways) Blended Airfoil (Pponk).

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process...

With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).
Success has many fathers...... Failure is an orphan.
The 82 Buccaneer. With the previous 520 no problems but after putting on the 550 I had some funny vibrations and chased them. Bought a prop balancer and everything. Talked to a bunch of people about it. When i overhauled the IO550 I found a connecting rod 14g heavier than the opposing rod. Precision balanced and now everyone says it is turbine smooth. I think the thin blades reflect a harmonic easier than big thick meaty blades. I am interested in how it will handle water spray.

That's why when I had my engine built 8 1/2 years ago, I asked the builder to balance everything--he did, and my engine is amazingly smooth for a 4-banger.
