Building experimental floats - Similar to Baumann or PK 1500

Firstly,

- I am running a J3/C90 in what is essentially an "experimental" category in Europe
- I have an experienced float builder who can make anything, rebuild anything that floats see http://www.floats.cz/english/products/products.htm

I would like to end up with new condition set of floats. I presently have Edo 1320's on my aircraft. I understand that the best performing, lightest float to ever be developed for the J3 is the Baumann 1500 and they are like gold dust. Where would I get the information to make an identical set of experimental floats as close in design to the Baumann 1500 as possible? If someone had a set, and could help me with some dimensions and the documents they have on file it would be amazing. Even the N numbers of some aircraft with them fitted so I could read the 337's would be useful.

I could also get them to rebuild my 1320's or rebuild a set of Aqua or PK1500 as they have done before. They probably have enough info on file to make me a set of PK1500 floats if I had a data plate or old set to build off.

If anyone has any info they could share on the Baumann design, or info from a PK1500 install on the J3 I'd appreciate any drawings, measurements etc we could get to make a set happen. Someone had to make every set of floats from sheets and rivets, I hope you don't think I'm too crazy.

Sounds like you are wanting straight floats. MurphyAircraft did make a 1500 straight along with their amphibious models. Might be hard finding a set though.

I had a set of PK1500's on a Champ. They worked great for me, but then they are the only floats I have flown so I don't know any better.

I may know where there is a set of PK1500's for sale. I was told about them a year or so ago and not sure if they were sold or not. I can check if you are interested in shipping a set to Ireland. One caveat...I get to come too!! ;) I'm Irish decent and have visited in the past. Beautiful country!!

You might check around and see if you can find any Montana Float Company floats. Pretty much just what you're looking for. I'm not sure just what the status is up there right now, but I know there was one guy that was still there a year ago, and answering the phone for Keith (who's living in Taiwan or something like that now). At that time, he said they still had some kits left. www.montanafloat.com
