I love these old documentaries, even though this one seems like it’s post-film, in the worst era of video technology.
The DHC-6 pirouette on floats at 35:25 was neat. Then the guy talking about how nasty it is hauling sled dogs. Ha!

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I love that video. One of my favorites. That, and Dominique Prinet’s book tell a great set of stories.
On a less amusing note, the Martin Hartwell story that starts somewhere around the 19 minute mark gripped the entire country for quite a while. Maybe my imagination, but the look in his eye during the interview belied someone not exactly at peace with himself.

I first saw this about 30 years ago. Brings back a lot of memories of doing the same stuff all over Alaska. I have pushed many drums of fuel out of a Twin Otter onto a tire just like what was shown in the video. Looks like an ex SEAIR Twin Otter in the video also. Great find Zane, thanks for posting.

Love the opening - 'it's -20, real brass monkey weather'. Or as we say in Yellowknife, "Monday". Great to see the old planes and pilots doing what we still do up here. Thanks for sharing this gem!

Nice to see some footage from the Eastern regions as well, good coverage across all the aviation "hot spots" north of 60.

Here's another one, filmed in Riverton, MB around 1980. I worked out of Hecla in the summers of 87-88, just a little north of Riverton on the Lake, and the Norseman shown in the film was still flying. I wonder it's still flying now...
