Re: Businesses who have treated me well

After a recent experience with David Clark, I feel damn near obligated to make others aware of my experience.

A few weeks ago, I went flying with another pilot buddy of mine in my 180. After flying, he sat his headset bag right in front of the T-hangar door beside my hangar, thinking it was out of the way. I went to pull my Jeep out of my hangar to put the 180 inside and pulled right up next to the neighboring hangar door, with maybe 6" to spare. Of course, I had perfect aim and the rear tire of my 4800lb WK rolled right over his David Clark headset, about 2 years old and in perfect condition. I picked it up and the right ear plastic 'dome' was cracked pretty bad. I promptly gave him my DC headset and apologized profusely. I tested it out on a subsequent flight and electronically it functioned great but the noise attenuation was gone from the cracked side.

It sat around for a couple weeks before I decided to send it in to David Clark with my explanation of what had happened and how I thought it was only the issue wrong with it, hoping to minimize replacement parts and labor costs. They said they would send me a bill when it was complete. Today I got that bill. $0. Not only did they replace the plastic dome, but gave me new gel ear seals, a new mic boom, and new head pad. Free shipping back to me as well.

I do not know why they did the extras for me, and it feels like I got a great deal out of running over a headset with my car. I've only had one other company treat me with this kind of undeserved customer service (Yakima car racks), but man it feels great. Thought I should share. I use an A20 as my primary headset and keep the DC in the plane for passengers, but honestly this makes me want to support DC even more.

Re: Businesses who have treated me well

SURPLUS CENTER www. surpluscenter.com. I've been dealing with them for about 40 years, if you are a "shop guy" get one of their free catalogs and keep it handy. My most recent purchase was a single function hydraulic valve for my tractor's new snow blade, and I ended up being shorted a specialized needed small plug, about dime size, used for setting the valve flow internally for certain uses, like mine happened to be. The odds are, when I unpacked the valve, I threw out the small plug (not expecting something that small would be included) with the packing, in the shop wood stove. After shifting through the ashes and emptying all the shop trash bins looking for it (when ash shifting, through the nails and other debris from the scrap lumber I burn in the shop boiler, I still didn't realize how small the plug was, and probably missed it) I finally called them, got right through, and to someone not in India and not on a crappy speakerphone, and I fessed up I probably lost it, "my bad, send me another." They did so, not only for free (not a big deal just 3 bucks) but also paid for the postage, even AFTER I stressed I was totally willing to pay for it and the shipping. Customer service doesn't get much better then that.

Aircraft Spruce continues to surpass my expectations, sure they screw up now and then, but they always make it right, and they are FAST.

My local postmaster, who knows to text me as early as 6 AM when a package comes in from anything aviation related, so I don't have to wait until my usual 2:00 PM rural delivery, using his own personal phone!

I have to say the same for my Postal Carrier... does an exceptional job... I text her for a package pick up almost daily and she has texted me a time or two to see if I have anything to pick up... great service...

Re: Businesses who have treated me well

A lot of "non aviation" outfits mentioned, esp considering Zane's posting about "no non-aviation subjects" recently.
Some of the posts on this thread don't mention any aviation related outfits at all.
I think the local roofing contractor who did a top overhaul on my house 2 years ago did a great job,
but I don't think this is the right place to applaud them.
USPS, and your local postmaster/mail carrier..... really?
Ditto Napa, bakeries, BBQ joints, hotels, etc.

As a David Clark aficionado, I'm glad to hear that their customer service is still as good as it was when they did the same thing for me many long years ago. I still have the original DC 10-40 that I purchased in 1978 and that they repaired for me some 10 years past the warranty period, plus 2 DC 10-13.4 (one modified with a Headsets Inc. ANR conversion) and my latest, a DC One-X. Great products, great service, right?

Re: Businesses who have treated me well

The first time I wore out my earpads on my Telex headset, I called them (pre email....) and a nice lady took my address and a few days later new ones arrived, along with a new mike muff, gratis! I expected a bill! A decade or so later, with a different Telex ANR, when one got torn on something, I was told by the "new" Telex that I could not buy just one, min. deal was a $85.00 package. Still not too bad but I liked the old Telex better.

I'm one of the very few using Micro Aerodynamics VG's, instead of the much cheaper plastic ones. They treated me very well back when they were not selling to experimentals, their marketing was for cert aircraft. I called up and talk to owner Chuck White and bitched, nicely, and he sent me a set, for FREE! My last set for my current bird I paid retail for, no problemo, just seemed right. An almost comically complete kit, virtually everything needed except a step ladder.

FlashPass

We just completed a trip from California to Valdez through Canada and back and we used the FlashPass app. The app made the eApis filing very easy and efficient. When we did have a question, Arturo, the app creator, answered our emails almost instantly. I don’t usually give product reviews, however, this app made the border crossings very easy.

Found it on Google. Looks like apple only. And not sure I can use it from Canada either. Looks like USA and Mexico only. Maybe that part doesn't matter?
Looks like a great app!

Arturo said that it works fine on Chrome on Android devices. He also said that it works fine for any flight entering or exiting the U.S. he indicated that they have many Canadian customers.

Arturo sent a reply email within 10 minutes of me sending it. A testament to his customer service.
