C-185 Engine Swap

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: C-185 Engine Swap

Pat,

So glad you are happy with the choice. I know we had a couple of long conversations about the conversion and what prop to use. It's as good as a set up as you can get in a 185 as far as I'm concerned.

I have the same engine and prop in my 206, also purchased from Donna, she was a tremendous resource, and was fantastic to work with!

from the article:
Conclusion
We agree with the sentiment expressed by a number of the modifiers—an owner has to go into an engine upgrade with the understanding that the cost will not be recovered when it comes time to sell, much as with an avionics upgrade. The purpose has to be to make the airplane into what the owner desires for future use, not resale.

Maybe the best thing to do from both a time and $$ perspective is to buy an aircraft the has been modified......if it can be found.

Re: C-185 Engine Swap

Nice!!!

Why 21" on the break in flight? Break in should be done at high power levels to seat the rings before they glaze.

Not trying to be snarky, just seen too many end up with glazed cylinders and high oil consumption on new engines from "babying" them. I have broke in a lot of 550's on Cirrus's and always do them at 25+ inches.

Enjoy! That is a sweet setup.

Re: C-185 Engine Swap

Ross, not snarky at all. I'd like to have been able to let her eat even harder, but my home strip is almost 7000' MSL....21" is WOP up here. Great place to live, but sure makes engine break in a little more interesting. Along with almost all other aspects of flying haha.
