Kurt, you oughta stencil that guy on your cowl like some sort of WWII bomber motif...well maybe not, given the racist connotations. Maybe just a characture of yourself with a knife in your teeth and a broken-off yoke in your hand.

Matt- Any light aircraft photos are encouraged. The photos of your repaint are interesting to those of us who might go down that road in the near future. I like the shots of Hidden Splendor too.

Sorry about the whole topic. I thought Yellow Peril was some WWI thing. I had visions of it being the name of Richthofen's cousins plane or something like that. Maybe that's what you should tell people.
Better yet, make up a story about some Asian-American WWII squadron with a yellow insignia, that the Germans nicknamed "Der flugenperildoffen mit yellosmaken". People love a good war story, and you could still paint the little asian guy on your plane . Just a thought....Okay I'll stop typing now.

For what it's worth, the Stearman (and Navy N3N) were nick-named
"Yellow Peril" during WW-II, as a reference to the dangerous
nature of primary flight training during that time period (most
Stearmans and N3Ns were painted yellow at the time)

Flight training in the early years of WW II started at an "Elimination Base."
The planes used were "Yellow Perils" - originally the N3N and later the N2S.


I think that's what your hangar neighbor was talking about Kurt.

I think I need to count the bolts on my wheels.

Doug to the rescue! Thanks for some kind of positive redeeming input! Actually, I was given a vinyl silouete of Mighty Mouse that I may use a nose art. It seems a little more appropriate. We'll see what comes of it.

I remember seeing a Maule on one of the internet classified aircraft ad sites that had Mighty Mouse carrying Old Glory on the tail of the plane. I scoured the internet tryin' to find that sticker but couldn't find it. If anyone knows where to get it...

I seem to recall seeing a Cessna 150/150 set-up for glider/banner tow with a Mighty Mouse sticker on it around the Seattle area a few years ago.Got a kick out of it.

Cessna 180 gear STC for C-170A

Hi everybody,
I am a happy owner of a 1950 C-170 A and have changed the original gear to solid axles and C-180 gear.
Is there an STC that I could get or refer to so I will be legal?

I sold the original gearlegs since, so I can't go back, ( and wouldn't want to) I but want to eliminate any problems selling it
Any help would be appreciated..

We imported our plane from Canada when we bought it a few years ago, and it had undocumented late model 180 gear previously installed. Our research found no STC available for the 180 gear. However, there are numerous 337s (useable only as examples of "previously approved data") available from the TIC170A library that have been used for field approvals. We used a DER for several modifications we performed, and these included a 337 (based on the heap of info from TIC170A) used for field approval for the 180 gear already on our bird, thus, "legalizing the mod".

Check with The International Cessna 170 Association if you want a bunch of 337 data, or I'd be happy to fax you a copy of mine if you wish. PM me if you need...

I'd contact Eric Leclercq if I was you, he's worked things out with Transport Canada on his gear leg STC. He corresponded with me some when he was doing it, getting dimensions for the 180 legs on mine.He seemed to be doing a comprehensive job, getting dimensinal data for different p/n of gear legs, so you should have minimum hassle going with his paperwork no matter which p/n legs you have. Good luck with it.

hey zane,look up alaska tundra tire they are the gar-aero dealer saw a 170 on 850-10 there the size of a 26in i going to put the gar-aero on my tcraft marc n43643

Joe, Eric Leclercq is not with Transport canada, he is a 170 owner who worked up and obtained an STC for 180 gear leg installation. I recall from corresponding with him that he is maybe an airline pilot?

John, what is the advantage of the 29x10 setup versus the 29 or 31 x 6 standard bushwheels?
Marc, you might look into the new Bushwheel-Light they're coming out with. Designed for lighter airplanes- up to 1700# as I recall. Wup? Still pretty spendy, though-- $2K-ish?
