LOL... True! There are always outliers indeed. But BB-8 wasn't designed in the 70's, it's an homage to all that was cool about the 70s. Actually, John Barry, the art director on the first Star Wars won an Academy Award for his visionary design. Cool shit. Of course I'm being tongue and cheek in my post. Actually orange is my favorite color of all, if its used in the right way. But orange with a green/gold stripe, not so much! #-o.

I digress... I have to get this bird settled in my head and take a good inventory. No real hard plans yet, but I'm leaning toward striping and painting it, but who really knows at this point. Its certainly nice enough to leave well enough alone and fly.

That Bird is too freaking cool! I'm sure you'll make it perfect!

BB-8 is what you get when you ask Millennials to take a very good design and 'give it a modern twist'.
Nothing will ever be cooler than an R2 series astromech droid trimmed in blue.
But, I digress.

Shit......first time I’ve been accused of being so....seventies.

Usually, I’m accused of being lost in the sixties.

I’ll try not to take offense.... :^o

Greg,

I would like to put my name in the hat for the pull switches that you take out.

The Lady Legs as well as much of the parts will be/are for sale, but I need to follow the BCP protocol and list them in the Marketplace. If anyone has any specific needs before I list stuff, shoot me a PM outside of this thread. I will be listing a bunch of stuff in the next couple of months. Thanks for the understanding.

Re: C170B Trainer - Resto begins, and then begins again.

Like the 52, the best place to start on any project like this is to drain the fuel and get it on the scales for a baseline. There is no real reason other than quantifying bragging rights, but that's worth the effort... You dont have to get it into flight attitude as you would in a full W&B, just get a simple baseline weight.

1382lbs with full oil and zero fuel. I will be getting out the big knife in Nov when I start in on the interior, but for now, out came the back seat (30lbs,) and off came the wheel panties (14lbs).

The motto: "As light as possible, as heavy as necessary."

Please tell me you did not drain the fuel while the airplane was in the hangar? Having survived a hangar fire I can tell you this is a big deal.

Yep, draining fuel with an air drop (even a short one) into plastic cans, and inside a hangar is a really hazardous practice.

I can introduce you to a friend who burned down a gorgeous old 170 this way.

Scary stuff.

Re: C170B Trainer - Resto begins, and then begins again.

There was only about 1-3 gal in that wing when I shot the pic as I needed gas to taxi it cross the field.. and the hangar is 8000 sq feet with both doors open... but of course you are right. (pulled the pic so no one gets the wrong idea. LOL) #-o

Good job Greg! We can all learn from each other, especially on the safety stuff, I sure don't want you or anyone else to experience what I experienced.

Re: C170B Trainer - Resto begins, and then begins again.

Greg,

Thanks, not trying to dig you......my friend was badly burned in that event, and spent months recovering. And, he was draining just a few gallons.

Fire and fuel scare the shit out of me.

What about grounding the airplane to the funnel and fuel can with some jumper wires?

Re: C170B Trainer - Resto begins, and then begins again.

Been trying to focus on the Skywagon (getting her back up in the air) but every once in a while I jump on the 170B project (just cant resist...)

So far I have pulled 162 lbs out of her with 15-25 more to go. I also started pulling the Lyc apart in prep for that build. Found a first run fact A1A with only 1600hrs. Getting excited.
