C85 Alternator
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
If anyone within the BCP community is operating a C85 with an electrical system what alternator do you have installed ?

I've installed a couple of the B&C's on 85's in Tcrafts. They seem to do a decent job. Nice and compact.

Thanks for the insight, compact is the key in my case. Do you recall which model it was so I can spec it out ?

If my memory serves me, it's a model 200. They aren't a whole lot of amperage, but it seemed to work well and both were on a tight install, on Tcrafts with the short mount.

B&C has a couple options. Any of them would be a good choice. Their permanent magnet option is very compact and light weight.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I know a number of people who run a B&C starter on a C85-12 (or O-200) with the generator hole blanked off,
then just charge the battery (usually an Odyssey) between flights as required.
A friend of mine just installed a C85-12 on his Taylorcraft L2 with just this set-up-- all per the STC he used.
Dunno if this is an option but it might be worth considering.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
The best option by far would be the lightweight, low profile B & C alternator. To do this the airplane will have to be migrated to an OM C of A, that might be what happens once the engine STC has been completed.

I use one of these on a C85.
https://bandc.com/product/200g-alternat ... #regulatorLots of field approvals for them….makes for an amazing lightweight electrical system.
What are you putting it on? Bill at B&C provided lots of example approvals in lots of airplanes. I think there’s a T-craft STC floating around for them.

That's the one I would like to use, just need an STC for it on a Chief.
