Camping at Challis, Aug. 12-14 '10 ????

I want to incorporate the Braun Brothers Reunion http://braunbrothersreunion.com/home.html in Challis, with my trip to Idaho this comming summer. Heard great things about this last year when I was at Yellowpine for the Harmonica Festival. I will either spend my first weekend at the reunion, or my second weekend at the reunion, depending on weather at the time. I called the airport today, and they said probaly no camping on the field.

Any recommendations from anyone who lives in the area, or has done this before'?

Thanks Gary

Thanks, but becuz of my fondness for adult beverages, I would just rather nose over at Challis. Plus, I think the fun will be going into the evening, and I don't want to do Upper Loon in the dark. Above my ability.

sure, upper loon in the dark would suck! have a few friends that will be staying at challis hot springs r.v. park, they are on their 'gold wings, and tent camping, nice rv park...that might work if u can take some sort of wheels with you...have hauled various small motor-cycles in the back of the 182 with no rear seat...good luck!

Upper Loon came first to my mind also.
I've camped at the Challis airport before. Same with Mackay, south about 15 minutes. Didn't ask via phone either. Nobody objected. Those 3 are pretty much your choices, except for some private strips owned by out of towners. They'd be last on my list of possibles. The first bar on the left up main street is run by a California transplant, a retired San Quenten prison guard, he is a hoot to talk to!

The BBR is a rockin' good time, one that you will not forget. There should be plenty of places to camp in town, just watch the website for updates. It is definitely worth going. With any luck, I'll be there too.

I'll be camping at the airport. I have talked to them about it, and gotten their blessings. Just have to work out the logistics of getting back and forth to the music, but hopefully enough traffic to atleast hitch a ride.

As the time gets closer, if it seems like very many will be flying in for the music, may try to rent a portapotti for the weekend. :-({|= \:D/

Thats great Gary, I am glad that Challis hasn't got all big time on us! Being specifically asked, initially they probably thought you were asking if it was a Smiley Creek type of setup....and they rightly said no. Have a good one while there, the Braun boys are worth seeing.

My Mom & Dad and my eldest daughter live in Challis, I may be able to arrange a ride to the Hot Springs for you. As others have said it is a very nice little place. The airport to downtown is just a short walk, less than a mile. The B. Bros. are indeed good entertainment. There is usually a guy named Bob Fratti that does a hell of a bar-b-que in Challis. There are lots of good fishing areas there as well, numerous lakes, creeks and the Salmon river.

Drop me a line (email) if I can help you out.

Let me know when you get to Idaho. If you want we can fly down to Austin the same time. JoeCub is planning to fly the Breezy down there (Austin).

Also, if you need a place to crash for a night or two or three, gimme a call.

I'd love to, but I checked my schedule and I'm on the road that weekend :(

I should be home the week of the Austin trip, though.

I think it would be a blast to go too! I know a real cool guy who is a pilot that lives in Challis that would probably help us out with getting around.

Last I knew the was a car avaliable at the airport. It was an old bronco. Got the keys from middle fork aviation and filled the tank when I was done. Pete is a good guy and might have some ideas.
