Re: CamTom12's Aerial Wanderings

A little extra effort and an added cable and you could make it adjustable in flight Cam. I'd highly recommend it.

I’ve thought a about that, about putting a 4” butterfly “throttle plate” in the top of the oil cooler plenum. The fun part will be finding room on the panel for another cable control.

I’ll give it another think for sure.

Here’s an older picture of the dash. Any spots you’d put a cable?

It wouldnt be used much, so could you put it just to the left of the Carb heat?

Maybe so, I'll check behind that area for structure!

Re: CamTom12's Aerial Wanderings

That panel is far too organized and pretty! I'd put it between the radio and GPS...you can dremel plastic from the side of each instrument to make it fit. If that's too clean, just zip-tie it to the V-brace. :D That last idea came from the cats...

I know it's a pain not having room for lots of stuff, but you sure can see out over the older, flat across the top, panel.

I must have just missed you!

I dropped in there early yesterday for fuel as well. Just after I took off I heard the local breakfast club chattering on their way to Clifton TN (M29) so I turned and joined them.

We should try again to get together sometime soon........

CamTom12's Aerial Wanderings

Late in posting, but spent a really nice day (the only nice weather day in 2 weeks) with KG and his grandson last weekend. Originally we just planned to meet up in Tullahoma for lunch, but ended up also visiting a friend of mine on the airfield and then I followed him up to Murfreesboro before heading home. It was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed Keith and Harrison’s company.

Here’s some random pictures:

Point Mallard, spent a cool afternoon here with my family last fall.

The guy that owns this monster is renting my buddy’s auxiliary hangar. It’s unfortunately down for some sort of spar issue, I think.

Logged a 2.2 for the weekend. I’m excited for spring to dry out so I can get into what limited off-airport opportunities I have around here. It’s all too muddy right now. Also, I have my oil cooler too blocked right now. It seems to take a while to settle on a temp, but at a high power cruise I saw 215 deg F oil temps in ~40 deg F OATs. That’s pretty good considering I have ~95% of the air blocked. It took a long time to get up there, though. I think more and more that a cockpit-controlled solution is the way to go, so I’ll start thinking that through for the next round of mods. I don’t intend to change anything until I see how it performs this summer though.

Plus, these came in today...

Harrison and I had a great time too!

This is the only picture I took. Not big by Alaska standards, but we had the fattest tires in Tullahoma parked side by side!

Looks like a Farichild 71.
Whats the powerplant?
There's one here on my airport (for sale BTW if anyone's interested),
it's got a Pratt 1340 and climbs like mad even at reduced power.
I think they originally had the 420hp 1340, I think this one's a 600hp off a T6.

I'm not sure on the powerplant - I tried to read the data plate and it was illegible. It was the only thing on that engine that didn't look pristine.

Re: CamTom12's Aerial Wanderings

Looks like a Pratt 985 from here. Nice plane!

Actually looking closer I think it’s a 1340. They have 3 stud rocker covers, and 985’s have 4 stud. Those look like 3 stud.

Too the boy flying today. Finally got a chance to knock out his first flight. Went from intending to do it his first week but actually completed right before he finished his first year.

Re: CamTom12's Aerial Wanderings

Awesome! Looks like he enjoyed it.

And he gave your tires a good inspection! ..... Checking to see if they are fat enough, no doubt.
