Can I fly under a bridge?

The regs state that you must stay 500' away from man-made stuff. Does that mean I can fly under a bridge in a gorge that is deep enough to be 500' under the bridge?

Yeah, but, I'd have to post as backcountry boy scout, and then nobody would know how cool I was.

"They" will get you for reckless operation no matter what the other regs may say, but...

Some of the most fun in the world is a good bridge shot. Solo, in formation maybe a few times, and even at night, but I ain't admitting nuthin'. Damn good times!!!!!

Actually there is a legal way to fly under a bridge. As long as you are taking off or landing. Sooooo can you think of a "runway" that necessitates you to land or takeoff under one???? A little trivia for you guys. Its been done literally hundreds of times WITH the FAA on board, flying the plane as a matter of fact,......totally legit. They enjoy the loop hole.

It's pretty common in the float world, and like you say, legal there.

Now the canyons, big lake bridges, and the other fun places... I look at it the same as "How do I hydroplaning the wheels?" Probably dumb, but I enjoy being dumb now and then. Hell, just ask my ex-wives, I'm dumber than a box of rocks.

Well, Gump got me all excited about trying the bridge. I couldn't even wait to log on as backcountry boyscout, so I just flew down south somewhere and did the first bridge I came to.

The ARCH in St. Louis....

....is something like 600 ft high. On the day that the Arch was dedicated, I believe that it was 1966: a twin engine Aero Commander flew though the structure.

Folks "say" that the airplane landed at a remote strip a few miles away and washed off the fake, temporary, registration numbers.

Folks "say" the aircraft belonged to the Govenor of Arkansas.

At night. In combat. Inverted. With a sling load....

Can't help it. Bridges are like a damn airplane magnet. If I see one I'm eyeballin' room for the wingspan.

Rainbow natural bridge on the Navajo reservation would be another prime target. Maybe they don't even have a rule against it?
