Can I install my own extended baggage?

Noob question here, but as a private pilot, am I able to be install an extended baggage myself, in my own plane, without being an A&P IA?

In short… no.

U can put air in the tires. Change a bulb or two, maybe some wheel bearings… (there is a list) but otherwise your tied to a mechanic.

You need a friend, that also happens to be an A&P. IA can be done at next annual. He can file 337 w/ your STC. Time it right.

It doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.

You can replace rebuild put any part on the plane yourself BUT!!! You need the right person to sign it off.(A&P/IA) I have rebuilt the motor and replaced a jackscrew in my PA18, put extended baggage in my 180, changed props, new wheels and tires myself. BUT!! All was done under the supervision and signed off by my IA! Most IA's I know are very busy and if you show some skill at working on planes are happy to have you do the work under supervision. Make sure you pay them for the time they hold your hand and paperwork involved.
You also have to do the work at a acceptable standard! Sounds easy but it is not. Back yard hot rod builds or a bit of pop rivet metal work does not give you a blank check to do work on aircraft. No shortcuts, understanding proper tools and procedures requires reading and understanding all the possibilities for error. That is why you pay the big bucks to the A&P/IA.
So go ask your IA see what She/he says that is the bottom line.

And of course you only have to come to Jesus during a ramp check, when it comes time to sell it. Or when your bodged up workmanship drops you out of the sky and you get to explain it to the insurance company.
