Casper, WY??

Hi all,
My job might have me moving to Casper, WY in the next few months, so I thought I better post on here and see what the aviation scene is like up there. Are there any BCP folks out there that have spent much time around that area? How about backcountry opportunities around WY? I know the wind is just a fact of life there, but maybe there are times when it doesn't blow as bad. I've never driven through there when the wind wasn't horrible. Is there good mechanical support and flight instruction there?

Yes, in between wind gusts!!!

I just left Bighorn Transport which they have a yard right next to the airport (east side off of 6 Mile Road, next to the big crude oil transfer yard they are building). Anyway, I've seen a yellow Cub many times flying the pattern, sometimes I believe I've seen it fly backwards

I can't provide much flying experience since my time there in the last 5 months have been for work and no flying in the area. But the town is pretty easy to get around.

Here are some great eating establishments:
http://www.jspubandgrill.com/ J's has great food and the scenery is nice  (Cute college girls)

http://www.botticelli-casper.com/ Botticelli Italian in downtown is pretty awesome. Linguini con Pollo plate is one of the best Italian dishes I've ever had!!

And for great fast food Gringo Mexican food, Poncho's is pretty damn good!! Cheap and you get a lot of food. It's on the northeast corner of Wyoming BLVD and Hwy 220.

That's about all I can suggest. Good luck on your new job!!

Without exception, EVERY time I land at Casper, I am so glad that I learned how to handle extreme crosswinds when I lived in Laramie! :)

Casper is windy, but it has its moments. You're only a short flight to the Big Horns to the north, and the Winds to the west. You're also only 45 miles from Douglas, where Backcountry builds their planes. There's a solid group of fliers there who don't spend much time above 200'agl. As far as I know, they offer both maintenance and instruction on field in Casper.
