Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

We're planning to lv Wed.7- 8 a.m.Stopping in either Jackpot or Wells for $4.99 fuel, Jackpot you can walk to the casino for lunch and then on to Cedar Mtn? may or may not stay. Hate to drag out the camping gear for 1 night! And the winds may be picked up by the time we get there. They are forecasting winds W-Su from 10 - 25 knots each day! No rain and low 80's!

Rob do you want to hook up on the way out? Meet at Jackpot for brunch? Let us know.

Strong winds at Moab today variable with gusts to 27 by noon. Tomorrow double digit winds by 9 am. Be careful out there.

Great margaritas in town however.

I like the Jackpot place. If the area of showers intensifies we could just call it a day at Jackpot. I really would like to do Ceder Mt, but if it is storming that will change the plan. Or skirt it to the west then slide into Caveman south of the junk. We will see what the next prog chart says.

Hey Rob,

You and the rest of the gang are always welcome to stay at our home in Elko and use a suburban to get around, if you decide to head a little further south. You can fuel up here with $3.99 premium unleaded (the 10% ethanol crap) from my transfer tank after I get home about 5. SS 100LL on field is $5.58 last time I checked a few weeks ago.

Cheers,
Mike

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Planning on having the poker run Sat. morning.

Here's the stops for the poker run
Mac Mesa
Dolores point
These 2 can be picked up on Fri. so that you don't have to fly the same route on Sat if you ar going to the BBQ. You can stillpick a card up there on Sat. if you don't make it Fri.

Talked with Ladd yesterday and the grass strip is in great shape. For those that haven't been there before or don't know about this, they have a great grass strip that is an extension of the existing asphalt runway.

Mineral Canyon
Horseshoe Canyon
Happy Canyon
Rustler Canyon
Caveman Ranch

If there are any of these strips that you aren't comfortable going into, don't go. You will be able to buy a card for that one.

It will be $10 a hand to play. One hand only at this point
Possably more depending on the turnout.

Last card will be at Caveman Sat around dinner time.

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR THE WESTERN TWO THIRDS OF
UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT

THE SPRING SNOW MELT IS UNDERWAY AND WATERS ARE SWIFT AND COLD IN
STREAMS AND RIVERS ACROSS THE OUTLOOK AREA. REMEMBER TO KEEP
CHILDREN AND PETS AT A SAFE DISTANCE FROM WATERWAYS AS THESE
WATERS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.

A COLD FRONT STALLED ACROSS NORTHERN UTAH WILL SERVE AS A FOCUS
FOR VALLEY RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOWFALL THIS MORNING. THIS
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BECOME SHOWERY BY AFTERNOON WITH
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY

A SERIES OF WEAK DISTURBANCES WILL CONTINUE TO BRING CHANCES FOR
VALLEY RAIN AND HIGH ELEVATION SNOWFALL ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS
OF THE OUTLOOK AREA THROUGH WEDNESDAY...AND LIKELY INTO THURSDAY.
ISOLATED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS CAN BE EXPECTED AS WELL DURING
THIS TIME. AN UNSETTLED WEATHER PATTERN LOOKS TO CONTINUE INTO
THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

The route I have to Cedar Mt don't look good. Trying to get through the Wasatch with wx is a bad idea. So the wx watch continues

I'm jealous, I wish I could make it this year. Hopefully the weather holds out as it sounds like a record attendance.

Good work Gary for lining up another great fly-in. Please tell Paula, Rod, Hunter, and Johnny hi for me.

Have fun and fly safe.

Fuel Prices in the area..

I'm finally doing my trip planning for Caveman.

Has anyone done any fuel availability/pricing research in the area around caveman yet? Just thought I'd ask before I go through the exercise.

Anyone interested in meeting up Friday and doing Cedar Mountain and Mexican Mountain on the way to Mack for the BBQ?

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

I'm flying over thursday morning and was thinking about camping at Mexican Mountain that night then heading to Caveman early on friday. As long as the winds aren't too bad I'll probably do that. Anyone else going to be camping somewhere thursday night? I'm open to suggestions.

Wilga... I'm thinking about heading down Friday as well from KSLC. What airport are you flying out of and when are you leaving? Most importantly... what kind of flight time can I plan on at Wilga warp speed?

I was planning on something around 9:30 or 10am departure from U42... Heading over to... Maybe Huntsville for a cheap top off, then Cedar and Mexican Then perhaps Mack for the BBQ? I'm flexible, but my airspeed is fixed - along with my full span slats....

At, you ready? 80kts. You may want to deploy your flaps.. haha!

It'd be fun to meet up for a few photos somewhere along the route.

I monitor 122.9 while in the backcountry.

Forecast not looking good for us to leave Oregon on Thursday AM. :( Another frontal system coming through on Wed night. Wet and windy Thursday.) We don't have much wiggle room time-wise, so looking about 50/50 for us at this point. :(

If you get a late start and need a place to stay on Thursday night, please PM me. I'm close to U42 (Salt Lake City).
