Re: Cessna 150 Sportsman Stol

Hello! Since my last reply to this thread, I had sold the C150 mentioned. It had Horton STOL kit, and the prop was pitched at 50”. It is a nice plane. I missed the fun I had with plane so recently purchased another. The newer one has two big improvements over the one I sold. It has the Sportsman STOL kit, and it has a 48” pitch to the prop. I get much better take off and climb performance, and I see little or no difference in cruise speed at a typical power setting of 2500RPM. The engine RPM will go right up to the redline when I level off, so I have to be ready to pull the black knob out a bit, and then get friendly with the red knob. I am
Really quite happy with the performance at maximum gross weight, and when I am alone with just half tanks, it is an excellent performer.

Did of a thread drift but still on the subject of C150's, does the 150 hp STC allow for a gross weight increase.

Some do...the "Texas" Lycoming (320 or 360) STC on my old C150/150TD bumped the gross up from 1600 to 1760 for the 150D and later.
The earlier (1500# gross) models stayed the same.
There are a few other 150hp STC's also, dunno if they change up gross or not.

Re: Cessna 150 Sportsman Stol

We had a 150 150 tail dragger here with a Horton kit and VG's .

With the right prop it is an almost super cub.

You need the re arched tall gear for the taildragger and tundra tires to get enough angle of attack.

This is a very under rated aircraft.

Any stol cuff is a vast improvement ,but the sportsman is the best.

A light 150 with a slightly massaged O 200 and the right prop might just be a ton of fun.
