Cessna 170 29x10 Wheels

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: Cessna 170 29x10 Wheels

I ran the the 29" Air Hawks on my 182 for just over 10 years: http://www.backcountrypilot.org/gallery ... 545&pos=22
I think you could run them for another 10 years but....THEY ARE VERY HEAVY..however I did like them.

When I got the 180 it had and still does have the 8:50 x 10 Gar's. If I were to do it all over again and had a 170, I personally would get the Gar's. Lighter and basically the same type tire with tread etc. I am sure I will be correct if I am wrong, but as Ninzina stated he ran the 8:50's on his 170 and loved them.

My 29: Air Hawks were just heavy...

Thankfully, I now own the 8:50 x 10 for pavement flying and the 29" AKBW (When WUP sends them to me...) for my everyday type flying. The wife still does not know however...thinking about a Matt type presentation to share here when she actually gets to see them first hand. The one thing I have going for me is that I can just tell her they are the old tires I have always had as I really dont think she will know the difference :^o

If you go with the 29" Air Hawks you'll have a big decision to make: shaved or unshaved. I went with the unshaved but am now regretting my decision. I wanted the extra tread because I do a lot of pattern work on asphalt runways and didn't want to worry about flats when out playing in the cactus. But these tires are "heavy" duty and the deep grooves look like they'll pick up a lot of 1" gravel.

Good point on the rocks Jumpy...You will also need to get the horizontal stab protection covers as the groves throw rocks for certain! Get the 8:50 x 10 Gar's...otherwise AKBW's!!!

This is also a pretty cool link to see a lot of pictures of aircraft. Lots of 170's on 8:50's ...be careful, this link is a serious time killer!! 9 pages of aircraft!!
