I have a 58 C180 and love flying tailwheels but in all honesty most of the places I fly don't require it. After watching Larry fly his C182 just about everywhere imaginable I see no real limitations for the C182 other than you will go through propellers a little bit faster. You will save on insurance. If you really get desperate home sick for having the tailwheel you could always do the conversion - especially since you have the mechanical skills.
I agree with all of that, well said! By the time I weigh the expense and effort to convert it to a tailwheel, it makes more sense just to fly another taildragger to scratch that itch.
Besides, there’s something interesting about the low rider 1961 D model 182! It sits so low compared to everything else, it’s kinda different. The canoe shaped wheel pants are fun too.
