Cessna 180 Aileron Bellcrank Bearings

Anyone have any experience removing the needle bearings on the Cessna aileron bellcrank? I'd like to replace mine after sandblasting & powdercoating the bellcranks. I've tried a drift and collet/slap hammer +/- propane heat without success.

Thx!

Could you post a photo and or part number?

Are you tying to get the bearing out of the bell-crank?

Re: Cessna 180 Aileron Bellcrank Bearings

Took me a while to figure out the problem:

Cessna Bellcrank 0523223 +-1
Bearing B-610 Full compliment caged needle bearing
Torrington and Koyo
Believe Koyo bought out Simken

Since there is one on each end I assume they are driven in to a milled depth/stop.
Usually need some form of slide hammer to hook on the inside and jerk them out.
With a LONG 1/4" grade 8 bolt you might be able to drift out the far side bearing.
Two more options:
1- Secure bellcrank vertically with one end on a solid base.
Pump in bearing grease until it comes out the top.
Take a 3/8 dia. punch - Place it in top of upper bearing and Smack it good.
The "Hydraulic" pressure is often enough to pop the top bearing out.
Clean up the mess.
May be able to use a larger dia shaft to drive the other one out with quick - lighter hits.

2 - Get a Dremel type tool with lots of options.

Later freeze the bearings before installing after lightly heating the shaft.
I used to use Dry Ice for the bearings.

Best I can do for now

Thanks for the response. I was wondering if there is in fact a ridge or seat cut into the tube or if it's just a flush seat. If there's no ridge, I could try a press and push them both out. Here's the rig I've tried so far:

Re: Cessna 180 Aileron Bellcrank Bearings

I ended up having to carefully cut a groove on one of the bearings on each bellcrank with a Dremel carbide burr, taking care not damage the inside diameter. It turns out there is a seat machine into the shaft, precluding pushing both bearings out from one side.

Once one of the bearings is removed, the other can be pressed out.

After sandblasting and powder coating, new bearings are packed with Grease (I used Mobile SHC – 100), and pressed into place.

And are ready for install.
