Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

Is it normal for a C-180's front seats to not slide forward enough for the front seat catches to come off the track?

It drives me insane that I can't get my front seat out by utilizing the front rail reliefs. Currently I have to remove the rear seat to be able to slide the front front seat back far enough for each catch to come out of the back relief.

When I try and remove the seat from the front rail reliefs the seat height pivot point hits my door post pillar cover and won't allow enough forward movement.

Obligatory picture...because everybody loves pictures. PS: I can't wait to see green grass again.

Re: Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

I never met one that I could get the seats off the forward end of the tracks.

Lose that clunky (and heavy) back seat, replace with late model 185 rear seats or Atlee Dodge folding seats and problem solved.

No need to thank me...always happy to help someone else spend their $$$.

Re: Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

Indeed. You wont be able to get the seats out via the front relief.

Remove both side panels and they come out. Over the years of new cushy interiors, they get in the way of taking the seats out.

Mine come out the front tracks but it takes serious verbal lubrication and/or patience. As Tom said its the cushy after market interior that gets in the way. And I recognize that wagon ;)

Re: Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

Don't know about 180s, but with my P172D, I take out the rear seat stops, then slide it back until the back rollers/hooks are off the track, then twist the whole thing toward the door. Pretty quickly it comes off. Getting it back on takes some unpleasant language, because it's hard to see and do at the same time. All FWIW.

Re: Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

I was going to ask the same question. In my 55 180 the only way to remove the seats toward the front is to remove the side panels. I was wondering if it was the later year model seats in the plane or if this was a common problem. Thanks for asking the question. Altees are on the list.

Re: Cessna 180: Removing Front Seats

If you have the adjustable seats crank the height all the way to the top.... Helps a little...
