Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm

We're trying to track down a Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm, ours broke on landing this past weekend, and the part is becoming hard to get.. It is the "the old style" (We have a 56 182.) The part number 0543004 is shared with the 'old style' 172 also. Here is a picture off of google of the part we are looking for.

Any one out there have one kicking around?

Thanks for the help

Re: Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm

Upper valley.. Yes.. Tried them and they didn't have it. tried lindair -for a brand new one, and Cessna has none in stock. Tried an outfit in edmonton, wentworth aircraft, dakota something or other, and a few others.

I have a feeling it is a part that just 'doesnt get inventoried' at the salvage yards, or ends up in the bottom of the toolbox for a 'one day we may need this'.

Anyways, any help would be great.

Try Buckeye Airmotive in Caldwell, Idaho. You never know what Linda has laying around the shop.

Re: Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try these couple more contacts out once the weekend is over. We've had a couple AME's suggest 'just weld the one you have', but of course no one is willing to weld it, and sign their name on the maintenance release (myself included, I just don't know enough about the part to say 'yes it can be done', legally, well plus I weld like a ).

I just can't believe it is this hard to get such a simple little part. It wouldn't even be a hard part to fabricate, if I could figure out exactly what the material is, and the temper.

Steel - 4130/ stainless?
probably not magnesium/defianetly not aluminum

I'd truthfully rather make the part, or buy new, rather than buy used, because then we would have a 'new part'. The previous one lasted 60+ yrs, of a hard life, dropping meat bombs.

But to get us back in the air, I'll buy used for the time being.

Try Beegles in Greeley, CO. If they don't have it (and they have LOTS of Cessna parts), they're likely to know who is most likely to.

Re: Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm

Thanks for the help guys. We're airworthy again :)

Now it's time to fix up the T-Craft... Then it's time for some cosmetics to the Stinson.

And then the Stinson/Poorman "projects", wings. I got the ribs all fabricated, and lightening holed up, the spar repaired. Now all I have to do is primer, and rivet, then the wing is ready for its 'precover inspection' ("homebuilt stinson")

Just curious. Where did you get the damper arm from?

Re: Cessna 182 Shimmy Damper Arm

A pilot out here, had one kicking around on his shelf. I was complaining to him about how hard it was to get parts, and he said, 'oh i might have that part'. Came back 10 minutes later, and handed it to me. All he wanted was a beer.
