Cessna 182B Interior

After flying my 182 for about a year and a half, I just couldn't stand the stench anymore. Almost thought I had an airsickness problem. I knew the plane had some mouse issues from the previous owner keeping it in his farm shop- but i didn't think it was quite as bad as it was. The good thing was i found absolutely no corrosion. When i pulled the headliner and insulation, I covered the floor with mouse droppings.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Lots of gutting and cleaning. I didn't go crazy with the black goo. it was all nicely intact and skins looked like new. Installed 1/2 foam throughout. Replaced all scat piping, cleaned, lubed all pulleys/cables. Very time consuming, but well worth it.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Finally the scary part. Headliner install. Went back and forth between wool and vinyl. Finally settled on vinyl for easy of cleaning. Bought it from selkirk - really nice quality and honestly not as bad of a job as i imagined, just take your time with the old catch teeth. Start from the back and work forward. Yes, i do have some wrinkles, but hoping a few hot days will maybe smooth them a bit.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Blew the budget on aerovents and selkirk front panels. Damn i love the aerovents though after flying with them. Trying to decide what to do for panels for the doors and rear seat area. Selkirk panels have no built in armrests and my old armrests are fabric covered aluminum from 1959. I see abs panels with armrests molded in that are available. The back seat is a tight fit - not sure how easy it will be to r&I with the selkirk panels - Do they take up alot of room? Put the heavier coin dot flooring in. Got enough to do 2 airplanes for a 1/4 of the price of the SCS flooring, granted their cutting job is probably way better than mine, but it is much better than the old mouse pee carpet.

Looks Awesome! I did a similar interior in mine and its really durable, easy to clean, and looks good! I think you'll be really happy with it!

Jim

P.S. Those Aerovents are awesome! Wish I had seen them when I putting mine together!

Looks great Mark. I went crazy with the black goo in my 206 and I'm glad I did as there was a bit of corrosion underneath it. Goo gone world pretty good on it and it didnt take me nearly as long as i feared. Those aerovents do look great! I was just picking them out the other day, so I'm glad to hear a good pirep about them.
Great work!

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Looks good! Just to let you know, if you get Selkirk side panels for the rear, your rear bench seat won’t fit. I tried in vain to get a bench seat to fit in my 180 with the Selkirk panels. All I managed to do was get really frustrated and poke a hole in one of the fiberglass panels. I finally took measurements and there’s simply not enough room to accommodate the stock bench seat. I did some research and found out that Selkirk recommends modifying the seat by cutting 1”-1.5” out, welding it back together, and reupholstering. Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Thanks guys! Took me a lot longer than i imagined as there is is only so much time to get to the hanger. Even if the hanger is in my backyard.

Great info on the rear selkirk panels. I am considering going with The FA dodge jump seats instead of extended baggage and the associated battery move. When and if i decide, i will go with the selkirk panels then. Black foam in the mean time

Aerovents are pricey, but worth it. Nice having two vents on each side and they seal perfectly. Couple grand said fast and mixed in on the credit card with a pile of other aviation purchases isn't so bad....lol

Anyone have two good armrests they want to sell? I would prefer the selkirk to the abs panels, but i really want to keep armrests and I don't think the formed sheet metal factory aluminum ones would be easy to make work.

Next on the list will be sport aircraft front seats and acorn exhaust. Bank account needs lots of reloading first though.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Looking good! I love the look of that flooring. Would I be right to assume its from Lonseal?

I know what you mean about the old airplane scent. My nose is a little sensitive at times the last few times I have flown the airplane I just couldn't stop sneezing! Makes it fun on those windy days I suppose.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

Thanks! Yes you bet Lonseal. The heavier stuff, most guys don't use. But i find it doesn't roll up on the edges. Next will be the 1959 seats to get rid of. Was pretty overpowering inside on a hot day. Probably not healthy either.

I'm going to try a local shop for my seats. Try to keep my $$ in Canada.

Re: Cessna 182B Interior

I do try to shop local, even if it is a bit more. More times than not you just can't justify it. I wanted a new airspeed indicator, faded bezel - Tried Bristow, located in Sherwood Park no less, Quoted $900 for a rebuild, no exchange available. AQI in the states - $300 for a rebuilt - no core necessary.

Ya I know. They do usually shoot themselves in the foot.
With the upholstery I'm going to be a bit picky though. And I'd like to put a heated seat pad in which I don't think I can order from any of the prefabbed seat upholstery.
