Re: Question for the 206 Experts: 205 vs 206? Baggage Ext.

That's awesome, Cory! I'm sure you'll put the extra space to good use.

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

Today I had the chance to play around with loading the plane with the extended baggage mod. I'm really happy with the results! I'm really amazed at how much it held. I wasn't going to fully load my plane but did anyway. Probably close to a 1/3 of my gear fit in the new area. All in all, 82#. I ran the W&B and was 400# under gross weight and well within the envelope. The only things left to put in are our cooler, food box, duffle 5 small duffle bags with clothes, and jackets. Even after that we will still be well under gross and well within CG. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper...literally!

Oh, and it's done exactly what was needed for the landings. It lands much nicer with much less nose up trim. I even was able to keep the nose wheel off the ground for a bit on landing but it still settled nicely and compressed the strut when the time came.

Excellent!! And I just remembered that I need to get you a weight and dimensions for my screen tent. I'll get those tonight and can have it in the mail tomorrow if you still want to borrow it!

Thanks Cam. Get me the dimensions and I'll see. I found another one that is free hanging but might serve dual purposes.

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

Last week I put the finishing touches on the baggage extension. I used rubber matting for the shelf and rear panel. The. I used some Selkirk foam for the side panels and part of the rear panel. I think it turned out nicely.

Thanks Rob. Hopefully this will give me just enough wiggle room to avoid buying a pod. I've already had people call me about it and the paperwork is currently going through the process for a friend in CA.

Is it Daniel or someone else?

I'm looking at pods for the 180 already. We start running out of room when you have a 85lb dog in the baggage compartment! I need wing-x before I ever do a pod though. $$$ #-o

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

After having the pod on the 206 for a few years now I can't imagine not having one. No speed penalty that I have noticed and the extra room is almost always needed . I did get very lucky and scored a factory Cessna one for $250. From a guy in the Bay Area that "used to have a 206" It had been sitting in the back of his garage for a long time . Keep your eyes pealed , there are some pods just laying around if you dig deep enough .

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

I may still go that route at some point, but of the 3 I found, it was going to be a $3-5K project. For the time being, I'm surprised how much breathing room this mod gave me...not bad for $125. But you can never have enough room!

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

Congrats on getting your extended baggage done and tested. Looks great!

Where did you get the D rings you put in? I've been looking for some to put in my plane.

Thanks

Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

Thanks! I think he just got them from a hardware store. I've found some on amazon that look the same. They are saddle repair d rings. I want two more for the side middle...just to help the net cover the whole area. I ordered some today to see if they will work. I'm pretty certain they are the same thing. They've been surprisingly hard to find!

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

I think you can get saddle D rings at Smith & Edwards. Check the aircraft, leather and saddle area in the NE corner of the store. Ask at the counter.

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

Thanks BTV!

Steve, that's good to know. I looked there in the hardware area by the climbing ropes but didn't find anything. I didn't have a lot of time to wander either though.

Re: Cessna 205 Baggage Extension Mod Complete! - Update

That's fantastic Cory. Is there any chance you could set me up with contact info for the friend in California doing the same modification? I've got the little locker compartment but that baggage area looks incredibly useful.

Thanks!
