Cessna Cowling Fastener Kits

Does anyone have experience with these: http://www.milspecproducts.com/cowlkits.htm

They are less than half the price of the Skybolt kits.

Sometimes the "you get what you pay for" rule applies, but sometimes not. Looking for any feedback.

Re: Cessna Cowling Fastener Kits

Don't have any experience with those. I did put the skybolt fancy ones on my 180 and they are really nice.

Re: Cessna Cowling Fastener Kits

So who is going to install them first and give us a fastener report?

While not quite the same thing, I'm using Mil Spec Camloc fasteners on the Bearhawk. They are high quality so I wouldn't hesitate to order some. You can always return them if they don't meet your expectations.

I have never had a Cessna cowl go together with ease. Would be nice...

Suppose I will install them. I'll provide a report soon.

If the fasteners turn out to be good quality and you have to purchase any expensive tools I would maybe buy the tools from you when your done.

over 400 bucks for a kit for my old 182. Guess I will just stick with my power phillips driver.

How did you come up with over $400.00? A'm I missing somthing, or is your 182 a twin?

Obviously, when you say "their site", your not talking about the Mil Spec site. C-182 kits on the Mil Spec site range from about $190 to $250, depending on model.

Re: Cessna Cowling Fastener Kits

Seems like Skybolt does a sale 1/yr. I bought mine on sale, $225-250??? Seems like it was around the first of the year. Was about a 4 hr. install, and happy to have them. Still a few bolts couldn't be replaced, but a huge improvement.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Re: Cessna Cowling Fastener Kits

I bought a kit and installed them yesterday. They are great looking and took less than an hour to install. There was a fair amount of extra hardware included as well.

Looks like I'll stick with my electric screwdriver--the kit for my LRB is $392 (early screw type).

I know, old topic.

How well are these fasteners working 6 years later? My cowling fasteners need some work and this looks like a good solution.

They are working perfectly! I have had zero issues with them, and my cowling is off and back on again at least half a dozen times per year.

I installed new anti-chafe tape last year and they got really tight. I was slightly concerned about deformation in the phillips drive under high torque. Once the tape compressed, they went back to the usual performance and are holding up great.

I would install them again in a heartbeat.
