Cessna R172E/T41B, WTF? (What Type Float :-)

If any of the BCP collective know of any FAA-approved (i.e. Field Approval) float installation on a Cessna R172E (Army T-41B) I would appreciate feedback. Details would be nice, but just an N-number from your logbook would helpful should you happen to have flown a float-equipped one, or perhaps a photo of such.

I have already tried Floats Alaska, Wipline, Edo, Kenmore, Bauman (when they were in business), etc, but no joy.

Thanks and

Fly safely!

Is that not the same type certificate as the 175?

It is. Same as 175, P172D (mine), 172XP, R172 (Reims Rocket).

PK 2300's ring a bell in my mind as going on the hawk XP. They are back in business in Maine if so.

There seems to be lots of 175's with floats so I think there must be approvals somewhere.

A prior field approval is what I am hoping to find, because the R172E is not on any float STC's AML (Approved Model List).

Fingers crossed....

The Hawk XP is approved on PK B-2300 floats. I think that MAY be your best angle, since they're on the same TC. Try calling PK, and see if they can help.

I've seen a fair number of XPs on floats but never a T-41 that I recall.

One of the things I've gotten accustomed to is that after-market suppliers of just about everything seem to ignore my airplane when they prepare their AMLs. If they would prepare them using the type certificate instead of the airplane's model number and serial numbers (if that's possible under the regs--I don't know), it would make it easier.

One of the nicest events, though, was some years ago when I decided to install a Steve's gascolator to replace the glass bowl OEM version. My airplane wasn't on their AML, but instead of having to get a field approval, when I contacted Steve's to put him in touch with my IA, he put my airplane on his AML. Now that's service!

True, but there's a bit more to it when adding a set of floats to an aircraft.
