Cessna right opening window mod

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Cessna right opening window mod

Taking to an IA today about this. He’s done a few fixed window to opening window conversions. He said he finds damaged doors and uses the window frame and hinges and puts them into the existing fixed door. He said it’s a day project and doesn’t require painting because he uses the existing door. Has anybody ever heard of this ? Is it even possible ?

I know there’s an STC to do this. https://ellis-assoc.com Seems like the only easy way to do it on a 182 as they didn’t come from the factory that way.

By reading the description it sounds like a slightly different process than what your A&P is doing. I’d be curious what approval he’s using.

Yow! $500 for the paper! Would be nice, but it sure seems this should be easier than 20 hours AND $500 paper.

Welcome to aviation…..

He’s done a lot of them. He definitely files a 337. I know that. He uses factory parts. That I do know he mentions is that you must use factory parts with part numbers.

Re: Cessna right opening window mod

Where is he located? I’d love to have a right side opening window.

Seems to like this should be a “minor”, if using Cessna parts.

But, like Door Stewards and tinted visors…..if some outfit gets an STC, everybody thinks you MUST have an STC, including the FAA.

I'm in the process of changing my C172D passenger window to an openable one. I'm looking for the window frame. Could you connect me with your mechanic? Thank You!

Not to take this thread down an entirely different rabbit hole but I’d sure love to put an openable right window in my U206 F if anyone has ideas. It gets a little stuffy in there when the pilot is in full slow mo on the dismount

The opening copilot window was an option on the U206F. Mine has one, so no STC would be required, if you can find one. I'm not sure if both sides are the same, though.

Re: Cessna right opening window mod

My right window opens but doesn't have any sort of a prop or strut like the pilot side, do they typically come with one?
