I've been thinking about taking apart my old ratty pannels, mine are the old style made of aluminum, and either using them as paterns or stripping the glue and just painting them with fleck paint or somthing. has anyone done this?

Thread resurrection. I did what's been discussed by some in this thread. After removing the stock panels and installing a Selkirk interior that I didn't like I changed it to a Kinzie interior that I liked better. Then with the help of a talented mechanic friend I ripped out the entire interior, panel, and all the windows and started over. Other than a stack of money and about 250 hours of labor? It was pretty painless.

Damn nice stewart. I'm trying to picture what you did for the panels. Are they hard foam or a soft foam that is glued to the inside? is the cloth wrapped around these foam pieces after they are cut to fit and then you glue them in? Maybe it isn't a foam at all? Can you easily remove these panels? In particular I'm looking at the top (roof) of the fuesalage. Is this a make to fit deal or did you buy a kit? You mention that the lower panels are velcro attached, I assume the two sided velcro tape stuck to inside of fuselage? did you not do same on roof since they might fall down? sure would like something like that, light, clean looking, no hanging down headliners. Yes, mutt muffs are standard equipment in my plane. Where I go the dog goes. She's a very willing passenger.

I put the half inch closed cell foam in my plane in an attempt to quiet it down for the dogs.
It helped, but the Mutt Muffs were what got it down to the level my dogs could handle.
I need to come up with some sort of harness for them as they always want to be up front with me

Stewart, not sure if I apologized for all the nose prints I left on your windows in checking out your beautiful interior! Truly spartan elegance.
Your picture of the seatbelt had me noticing the middle side of the belt was attached to the gear ring on the floor. This is how mine was when I purchased it as well, so no doubt how they came from Cessna. Somewhere I read the gear loop was rated to a lesser load than the type of clasp you have for the outer side of the belt. Ended up buying the "stronger" clasps which are bolted down just between the gear rings where you likely have a diamond shaped doubler on the floor with three nut plates.
Thanks again for sharing your work Stewart. Really like the look of the cream/tan color and inlaid panels compared to the bare green chromate which others have done.

Stewertb, That is the most Beautiful 180/185 interior and panel ever, If there are any young A&P types, figure out how this is done, I know that none of this is rocket science, but being efficient, and having a demand is what has helped alot of people, in alot of different fields..

I'm about to refurbish my 206's interior. I'm going to get rid of all the carpet, insulation and as much plastic as possible. Ideally I'd like it to look like your bird, although the front door post in a 206 is not nice and rounded like a sky wagon's, so there will likely be some fiberglass or plastic parts in the mix. Same with the pedestal as well.

Specifically what type of foam did you use? Whats the fire rating of the material?

The foam was supplied by an aircraft interiors shop. Beyond that I can't tell you much more than I've already said about it.

Here is where I got my closed cell sound and heat insulation foam for my Tundra. Aircraft Spruce may now handle it. I bought adhesive backed 1/4", placed a layer of tin foil between the layers of foam as instructed half way through the article and stuck it together. It provides an additional reflective barrier on the cabin side of the firewall. Very effective and cheap.

Stewart, is that door post cover aluminum? I read the kydex thread. Very nice looking and could be used to cover a few select areas. For the most part, I think I'm going to have my shop try and replicate what you did with your bird. 1/4" sound deadening foam with velcro holding it in place.

The interior of the Mandes Light 185 is grey paint. It's a good look, but it seems like you've gotta have something to keep the cargo from denting the outside of the plane.

Yes, the post cover is aluminum.

Found the rating on the D ring tie down vs the seatbelt attachment I had mentioned above. After looking through all my maintenance and parts manuals last year, I happened upon it today while rereading my Owners Manual. Duh!
For the Cessna 180 J, Section IV pertains to Operational limitations. It is also the section with Loading Arrangements. Page 4-10 is Cargo Loading.
