CFI Seattle Area

Hello,
I have a friend that is searching for possibly a CFI with their own plane who can teach her to fly in the Seattle area. Preferably Harvey Field or KPAE. In lieu of that, other suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks for your help.

Re: CFI Seattle Area

What type of airplane does she want to learn in? Both Harvey & Paine have flight schools. Harvey's has a Champ. Plus there are some independent CFI's- Tony (last name?) at Paine and Jack (last name?) at Monroe both do instruction in their C170's. If she would be more comfortable with a female instructor, my friend Linda is a CFI with her own C150 but she's based at Port Townsend.

Re: CFI Seattle Area

Snohomish Flying Service at Harvey has a fleet of Cessnas and as mentioned a champ.

KPAE has Regal Air which is larger than Harvey with a lot of planes.

I am guessing Harvey is more economical than Paine and the airspace is less intimidating.

The only instructor who teaches in his own plane that I know of is on Vashon, Island and he ain't cheap.

Don't know if a private CFI would be more economical than the schools since the liability insurance for teaching in your own plane would probably be a bit high, but the instructor time could be less. Dunno.

One of my seaplane instructors in Seattle also has his own landplane (Grumman Tiger as I recall), but I don't know if he does instruction in it.

I think we need a little more information to be helpful.

It probably won't get any cheaper than this. Boeing field.

That looks to be a good pricing structure.

Snohomish Flying lists this: http://www.snohomishflying.com/adocumen ... -07-01.pdf

Regal Air: http://www.regalair.com/rentals/rates/

This is pricing from the Alternate Air flying club based on Boeing Field, in Seattle. I was a member before I bought my plane. Nothing cheaper around the Seattle area. They have a few instructors floating around the club with very low hourly rates. The planes are airworthy if you don't mind copious amounts of duct tape and other aesthetic shortcomings.

Seattle is a little trying to get to from the Everett area most days for convenient instruction. Look at Snohomish field just east of Everett or Arlington just north for instruction. I remember that the cost was a whole lot less than Paine or Seattle when I last looked.

One of their planes crapped out at my airport & wouldn't start. The FBO here fixed it, turned out to be a bad battery and/or poor electrical connections. While doing that, he noticed some unrepaired/improperly repaired damage in the firewall area. He said it wasn't something he'd feel comfortable signing off or flying behind. Got them fixed up and on their way anyway, then Alternate didn't want to pay the bill. They eventually did but it was a struggle. After all that, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Re: CFI Seattle Area

Another thought: Seattle Seaplanes is one of the few operators in the country which will train private pilot students from zero time through their private pilot SES checkride. Then she'd have to go elsewhere to get her SEL add-on. Different, huh?
