I take it from your post that you fly those cute little jets around the Saline MOA...If that's true, then do tell!

Is there any provision for not turning little civilian aircraft inside out with wake turbulence, such as a spotter aircraft or onboard radar? Just how fast do you guys fly when down on the deck?

I was thinking it must be an adjustment for the pilots who practiced in the low deserts of California when they went to Afghanistan, where the terrain is very similar, just a lot higher.

I tried radioing center the first time I went into the Saline MOA, and they said, "I don't see anything in there". Shortly afterward, a white jet zoomed by below me. So much for help from center there.

P.S. It's awesome that you were able to go in & out of Chicken strip in a 140 with two on board! Way to go!

When we are low in the saline and panimant valleys the military jets use a common freq of 315.9, unfortunately it is UHF. It is just a common use freq so we can deconflict. Joshua knows who is low, but not where they are. They could be anywhere in r-2508. When we are in Saline, climbing out back to lemoore, we don't typically get Joshua until 11k or so.
As for looking out for small planes, we use the radar, but mostly our eyeballs.

So when I venture into the low altitude MOAs, should I fly 50 agl or 3000 agl to stay out of your way, or make myself more easily seen. Now I wish I had a smoke generator.javascript:emoticon(':wink:')

I've heard that tube & fabric covered planes don't appear easily on radar. I love watching you fly those 1,200 gph kerosene guzzlers, but see & avoid seems more luck than practicality.

Stopped in last week. In good shape although there are some whoops that were not there last year. Hot springs were great.

Anyone landed at the Chicken Strip lately?

As of April '08 the Chicken Strip is in good shape. However, the wind sock does not function properly...or at all. 10 knots of wind and the thing didn't even flutter. Check the flags flying over the springs for wind info.

Both springs are running freely.

You take any photos?

we got lots of photos, question is whether we'll be able to figure out how to post them. Neither of us are terribly computer savvy, but we'll have time to sit down and try and figure it out on next week. I can try messing with Hammer's computer tonight and see if I get anywhere, but that will be a dubious endeavor at best... any helpful hints would be appreciated.

I followed the tutorial with few private mesages to Zane. I have it down now and if I can do it (never have used an atm) anybody can.

I'm headed for The Chicken Strip tomorrow to camp. Then Saturday morning Furnace Creek in Death Valley for breakfast, gas at Lake Havasu, then to Bermuda Dunes.

I may scoot over to Sedona, Az. before heading home Tuesday.

Anyone know the latest info on TCS? Is my 44 Mag Lever action enough fire power or should I take something bigger.
