occotillo wells is west of Bermuda dunes and it's dirt... Walk across the road to the restaurant...It's about 5 miles or so east of Borrego Valley..I have to work Sat but if it isn't too windy Sun I may make it out there for breakfast... We're supposed to have a full blown Santa Ana here starting tomorrow for a few days so beware of the winds....

I'm safe, I didn't make it to the Chicken Strip Friday so I stayed at Bridgeport, Ca. O57 What a great town! Had a wounderful dinner and turned in.

Here's how Saturday went. Wanted an early start so I set my alarm but the phone was in silent mode. So I woke up at 7. After coffee it's off to the airport. The Maule was covered in heavy frost but the sun was up in all its glorie.

I decide to start it and warm it up good. I do my standard procedure nothing. Must need more prime. Wrong, wrong, wrong. It is 6488 MSL you don't need as much prime. So I pull the top plugs, run the engine through a few time to get rid of the excess gas. Finally off the ground at 1000, so much for the early start.

Landed the Chicken Strip and Furnace Creek. It was blowing 30Kts at Lake Havasu so we will save that for another day. The CS is fun!

Rob I live at about 1600 Ft above SL and look due east to the cuyamaca mts. It's 8 PM and the wind is still blowing at over 30 MPH right now. If it's calm in the AM I'll get over there but flyin over our Mts in a santa ana is no fun... If I make it I'll be alone ... Momma won't fly to bkfast but don't leave the missus home on my account.... Anyway I'll do my best to get there before 9 AM or thereabouts....If I don't come there are two intersecting strips on a dry lakebed so landing into the wind isn't usually a problem... Watch out for dirt bikers and four wheelers although they know they aren't supposed to be on the runways.... Restaurant is directly across the road from parking area. You never did aPM me your cell number...

Don't mess with the wind. In the morning if it looks like you want to do it send me a text or post here. I'll be up early. My in laws will take the car to church at 9 so if I use it to go to the airport I need to be on the road by 0820. Let me know.

It just doesn't want to let up. The forecast for the passes between San Diego and Ocotillo still calling for gust to 30kts.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 75. East wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

This is for Laguna junction on the I-8

I would say I don't know if it is worth messing with for a breakfast run. Your the PIC.

Actually Rob I got a forecast of gusting to 50 and since we talked this morning it slowly started to die down. It was still blowing pretty good about noon so Jean and I went and played 18 holes today. Sorrry we couldn't hook up but the A holes are gonna get together in the near future anyways. Hope your trip home was safe and not too bumpy and windy... We need to see pictures though.....

Made it safely home tonight after an all day trip from Bermuda Dunes, Ca to Troutdale, Or. 844 NM 6H 40M Stopped for gas at Columbia, Ca. for gas and said hi to my pal westernpilot. What a great airport! Here's a couple more pics. Better stuff tomorrow with video.
