Weather guesser says isolated and scattered thundershowers. 30-50% chance of rain in Alamosa. What do you locals say? :?:

Looks like its going to be great weather! Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, was trying to get a new prop on the plane before the trip but it's not going to happen, have to order a part that won't be here in time.

Have a great time, take pictures!

I would expect to see some very isolated storms in the San Luis Valley throughout the weekend in the late afternoon and evening. I would be very surprised if La Garita sees any moisture though, and most of these isolated storms should be easy to go around at a safe distance. The wind doesn't appear to be forecast high either, so that's good news (beware, tricky crosswinds can appear between 1-5pm).

Typical springtime weather patterns in the Colorado Rockies. :)

Sorry to hear you won't make it, next time. We'll be sure to take some pics!

Also, here is the fly-in safety briefing that was sent out to all the pilots registered.

There is less than a week remaining until the La Garita Creek Ranch fly-in. We wanted to take time to put
together a safety briefing and some last minute reminders. PLEASE READ this carefully if you are attending.

1) SAFETY FIRST! A successful fly-in is a safe fly-in. If anyone feels uncomfortable about the conditions at
La Garita at any point throughout the weekend, we ask that you take advantage of several opportunities
that exist. Both Del Norte (KRCV/lighted) and Center (18V) are only a short distance away. Please call
Mike Spearman the ranch manager to arrange a ride @ (719)- fiv/eight/oh-two-four/eightysix from Leach (18V) or Tom Haefeli
from Del Norte (KRCV) (719)- /fiv/eight/oh-onefour/eleven.

2) We ask that each fly-in attendee signs both the registration and E-waiver. The registration helps us
determine how many plan on attending and how much food to purchase. This is a private airstrip, so
signing the waiver is equally important.

3) It is spring time in the Rockies and associated with that are afternoon and evening storms. Please check
the weather. La Garita sits at the mouth of a canyon and afternoon winds and downdrafts can be
hazardous. Pilot’s please use caution and good judgment.

4) We expect a great turnout for the fly-in! We ask pilots to exercise caution and patience while landing and
taking off during busy periods. If the airspace around La Garita is congested, we ask pilots to “hold”
approximately 5 miles directly North OR Southeast of the airstrip. To keep our noise footprint minimal,
please do not loiter in the canyon west of La Garita Airstrip due to numerous houses/ranches in the area.
We want to be good neighbors for the weekend.

5) A reminder that takeoffs to the west are not recommended due to rising terrain into a canyon.

6) Due to the abundance of moisture, the parking areas may be soft. If you have any doubt about where to
park (small tired and low prop clearance) please pull off the side of the runway and ask for someone to
assist in parking you. This is a backcountry airstrip and rocks, grass clumps, and animal holes exist. Also,
with an abundance of planes, we will need to capitalize on the parking space available, please park your
aircraft in a manner that will take up as little space as possible.

7) Attached is a chart of the La Garita Creek Ranch airstrip, we ask that you read and look over it prior to the
fly-in.

8 ) We also ask that everyone brings and secures their aircraft with a good set of tie-downs while parked.

9) A friendly reminder that some places in the San Luis Valley only accept cash, so please be prepared.

Below is an event schedule for each day:
-Friday Evening May 30: Dinner at La Garita Trading Post Restaurant 5-7P (transport provided)
-Saturday morn May 31: NMPA Breakfast, Fly-out’s to local airstrips including Morning Shadows, Quarter
Circle Circle, Creede, Saguache, Castle Lakes and others.
-Saturday Noon: Hooper Sand Dunes Pool Lunch and Hot Springs (Discounted Rate for the event)
-Saturday Night: Catered BBQ Meal back at the Main Lodge 5-6P
-Sunday Morn: Fly-out.

Please let us know if you have any further questions at [email protected]. See you soon!

Re: Colorado Backcountry Fly-in @ La Garita May 30-June 1

A final update for those attending the Fly-In. Everything is a go for this weekend. Both the ranch and the Sand Dunes Pool have put a lot of work in to the facilities/runway/parking areas and are excited to see everyone. Meal orders for the BBQ have been reserved for all that registered.
Plan appropriately with Isolated storms in the afternoon on Friday over the front range, but weather is supposed to be nice for flying on Saturday and Sunday in the San Luis Valley. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... 4f4pSimU1I

An extensive list of webcams showing sky conditions around Colorado can be viewed at: http://www.flycolorado.org/index.php/mo ... s-cameras/

For last minute questions about lodging, airstrip conditions, or to arrange a ride from Del Norte/Leach call Mike the ranch manager @ (719)- fiv/eight/oh-two-four/eightysix

See you there! :D

I'll be following your exploits with envy from afar. This sounds like a great weekend and I'd love to join you all. Take pictures, make movies and tell stories! Like all of the BCPers that won't be there, I'm hungry for information about the event. Enjoy!

Please keep us updated on the Fly-in! I wish I could be there but the 180 is in pieces right now... new ailerons, doing the FA Dodge Firewall battery thing. It's all the little bits that get in the way!

Have fun!
