Concrete fly-in July 13/14/15 , 2018

The Concrete Old-Fashioned Fly-in is coming up this weekend July 13, 14, & 15 at 3W5 Concrete WA, in the scenic North Cascades.
This is something like the 36th year it's been going on., I've been going for about the last 20.
The North Cascades VIntage Airplane Museum has been putting it on for the past several years,
but with NCVAM in the process of closing their doors the local pilots have stepped up and are once again running it.

There's a pancake breakfast put on by the local volunteer fire dept saturday morning,
plus misc food vendors etc with trailers / booths on the field.
Also tours of town etc.
Camping is allowed / encouraged.

IMHO this is the best fly-in in Puget Sound--
better by far than the Arlington fly-in which was held last weekend.
CTAF 122.9, usually something (good or bad) going on in the pattern so keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel.
See ya there.

Why is better than Arlington? Are there performers, warbirds? aerobatics?
I was there last week and really enjoyed it, I dont get the bad publicity it gets, all pilots should support it.

The museum at Concrete re opened?

I only go to about 2 fly-ins a year, I typically prefer more solitude camping...but this one is a good one. My wife and kids enjoy it. Lots of activity, and good food options there or take the school bus that shuttles you into town. It's also in a beautiful setting. My family and I will be there again, camping on the South side of the runway, a little East of mid-field. I'll be parked next to my Dad's 207. We'll be there before lunch on Friday and leave Sunday morning. Please stop by and say hi. We'll also be cooking popcorn in the evening.

Concrete is a fly-in, not an airshow (although sometimes it can turn into one).
It's also not a commercial swap meet, with vendors selling a bunch of non-aviation junk.
I go to the Concrete fly-in visit with old friends and meet new ones.
And look at some cool airplanes. And eat pancakes to benefit the local volunteer fire dept.

Concrete is not a commercial venture, it's a grass roots gathering of a bunch of aviation enthusiasts.
Unlike Arlington, you won't have someone pull up and have their hand out for some money before you even get the engine shut down.
I used to really enjoy the AFI, the past several years not so much.
But if you do, more power to you.

Oh, the museum is (in the process of) closing down, as per my first post:

Was in Concrete a few weeks ago, waiting out some Cascades weather. Comfy pilot lounge with internet, easy walk to several restaurants along the highway. Nice vibe.

Spent the Friday in Arlington, nothing of interest flying that day though the lineup for Sat/Sun had promise. Aircraft Spruce had a reasonable booth. Spencer had no Spencer Girls, instead an all male cast dressed in buibui and guaranteed to not offend any faction of society. Kinda dead if you’d gone looking for “what’s new and innovative in aviation”, felt like sunset for GA.
