Continental cylinder head temp question

Merry Christmas to everyone first and foremost.

I have a different type of question, When you fire up, no matter what the temperatures are outside or if you preheat or not...

What are you minimum numbers in regards to temperatures before you add power, or take off.

The way i have always done it is, not adding anything over 1100 rpm until i get 200 minimum CHT on all 6 cylinders, i then will perform my runup which brings them up to around 250, then i take off.

By that point my cheap cessna oil temp gauge has moved and has condensation on the glass.

Do you think i am warming up too much? I dont plan on changing my method, i am just curious what you guys usually do. I have seen mechanics perform full power runups at 135-150 degree cylinder head temp.

Thanks

Mike

I don't think you can warm up too much. I look for 200 and 100 oil temp before I fly.

Re: Continental cylinder head temp question

i usually wait until 250 on 3 cylinders before runup, that moves the oil temp off the peg. Runup moves it fully in the green. We have almost a mile taxi and this time of year it still takes another 10 minutes to warm up.

Re: Continental cylinder head temp question

I like 200 on CHT and 100 on oil. I find that I reach the CHT threshold before the oil T threshold so I'm generally waiting on the oil and by the time it's 100 my CHTs are way good.

TSIO-520s on C-402's look for 200 at the bottom of the green. We'd run up at 200, push the power up and go. Those engines routinely went to TBO. I look for 200 on my 470 and three years in all looks good at oil changes and annual.
