Crankshaft inspection
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
I am doing a prop strike inspection on a O-300 engine and was wondering if anyone new of a good shop to do the inspection on the crankshaft. What I am most concerned about is a honest shop. I have gotten parts failed by shops, that I was very suspicious of their motives.

Call Joe at Aircraft Cylinders & Engines at Greeley. If he can't do it, he'll know who can--he's one of the best engine guys in this area, totally honest.

There are a few shops that just do the NDT, they have no gain one way or another. We do a ton of prop strike inspections at the shop, due to the number of gear up aircraft we fix a year. The cranks are not what fails, typically. We find more problems with the cam gear, mag drives and oil pump and its drive. These are what we usually end up having condemned.

Thanks for the input. I’m going to call aircraft engines and cylinders today and leave a message. If you have suggestions please leave me a specific contact or company name.
I have only sent one other crank out for inspection and everything was fine, until I told the shop it was a prop strike. Suddenly he could see the cracks with the naked eye. I have no proof that I was shamed so I won’t name the shop, but it just felt shady.

The advertisement said "Crank dials OK". This means it is a crankshaft so smart, it has learned to dial the
918 area code on its own, where most of the crankshaft repair stations reside...
