I drive a cub and a 180. The cub driver in me requires a jab at the Husky guys every chance I get, because they always are waiting for me at whatever strip we are going to. :D

Denny Denny Denny, you poor lad, get yerself a Husky and get rid of that Super Cub like I did years ago! Then you can deflect the jabs from the SC guy's by going further faster higher and carrying a bigger load all the while getting in an out just as short if you are any good.

“I didn’t say “all”. But the agenda the environmentalist organizations pursue show that the moderates aren’t calling the shots. ”

You can pretty much say that about EVERY organization out there — the extremists are the vocal ones that everyone hears from. The moderates are the vast majority who never get the press coverage.

But the answer isn’t to bail out of the organization, or just sit back, point fingers, and complain — it is to join those organizations, attend the meetings, participate in their activities with which you agree, and be part of the solution. Once people see that pilots can be environmentalists too, you have a chance to help them understand your views, and that we CAN responsibly share the usage of the wilderness.

Re: Crappy story in Utah from AV Web

A couple of points:

Why would ANYone actually believe that some guy who delivers shitters would actually recognize a dirt track through the boonies as anything but a ROAD? Airstrip??? Holy outhouse, people can land airplanes here? Really???

Second, the pilot and CFI were obviously heads down or?? Anyone could have seen those things on short final on.

Third, Huskys have brakes.

Fourth, I have always advocated in off Airport ops, land short, stop, then either get out and walk the strip, or taxi slowly and on high alert.

To me it looks like the only morons involved in this incident were the pilots.

I have to agree, the guy was probably just delighted to find anywhere flat to unload the shitters and get out of there. It would be very hard for me to assign some malicious environmental protest action just because he left them there.

If he is an undercover environmental activist it shows some real commitment to get a job as a dunny delivery dude for that one job in a thousand where you get to make a statement.

If anything I think this tells us all to look for the unexpected at uncontrolled strips.

There is a big sign right at the road that crosses the airstrip stating, in no uncertain terms, that it's an airstrip and not for vehicular use other than to cross, and to watch for landing and departing planes before crossing the runway. You can't miss it.

Really? I once cited four guys, a lawyer, two doctors and a construction foreman for hunting in a closed area. They had walked in there on a dike about twenty feet wide, in the middle of which was a “Area Closed to Hunting” sign, painted on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood, which they had to walk around. They all swore they never saw or read the sign. I actually believed everybody but the lawyer.

The guy has a pretty shitty job.....I’m betting reading signs wasn’t on his pre employment exam.

And, finally, if this truly were an enviro plot, why wouldn’t they have had him put the crappers in the MIDDLE of the strip. Even Alaska big game guides are smart enough to do that.

Maybe the delivery guy didn't see the sign because he was looking at the tall steel pipe with a large orange Wind Sock on the top of it. You know, the one that sits right next to the sign.
