DAR willing to travel to Two Harbors MN

Does anyone know of a DAR that would travel to Two Harbors Minnesota to inspect my Carboncub? I had Tim Mahoney lined up but he just got a job with the FAA in Chicago and no longer available. He told me to contact the MIDO in Minneapolis to find another one. I went to the MIDO office yesterday and got zero help. MIDO dude told me the FAA won't do one outside of the Minneapolis metro area. I asked if they had a current list of folks they use and supervise and he told me to look at the FAA website. He said he thought there might be one in Wisconsin but wasn't sure. He did say that anyone in their region would work. (ND,SD,MN,WI and the UP of Mich)
I foolishly thought the FAA would be a little more help on this.

Must be something in the federal air. We had a Hell of a time getting the S20 done. FAA did the S7S 2 years ago no problem. This time around, the dude that can do it was on medical leave and apparently no one else could do it. They've got maintenance inspectors with resumes as long as your leg and can't sign off a kit plane???? BS!
Finally got hold of a DAR from up North. Had to call the JNU FSDO and "get permission" to come do a sign off in this area that they should have done themselves. Great guy, name is Rod Russell. Not sure if the gets to MN.
I feel your pain. Hope you have some luck.

Try the local EAA chapter. They should know of one in the area. We always have one in our Chapter 1217 newsletter ads for the guys building planes.

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.
I belong to the local EAA chapter and the guy they used to use, moved about a year ago to South Carolina. I guess I should have built faster.

Casey is my airport manager and isn't an EAB DAR. (Would be convenient since his hanger is 100ft from mine) He is Certified Cirrus but not experimental. I think they have to be Function 48 without restrictions for EAB.

I was looking for one in my area today. Listed by state and where they work out of, their names, emails, and ph#s. There are two kinds
Designated Airworthiness Rep
pagehttps://www.faa.gov/other_visit/avi ... types/dar/At the bottom of the page are links to "maintenance" and "manufacturing". The one I wanted was under maintenance. Not sure which is the right one for you but the manuf list seems more for the big boys.

It can be either....DAR-F or DAR-T. They just need function code 46 (Not 48) and no limitations or tube and fabric authorized. The EAA website list is 12 years old and based on an old FAA List from 2004.

Did you check the EAA list?
https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/aviation-com ... esentativeI used it to talk to a few DARs, only one was willing to travel to where I am. It is ridiculous that the EAA doesn't update the list but picking up the phone and making some calls may work as it did for me.

Have you called Mark Erickson at Dakota Cub yet? He may know of someone or he might be able to do it himself.

Whee, I called several on the EAA list, three of them were either no longer DARs or moved out of state. The EAA list is from 2004. I got ahold of a guy who quit being a DAR. Great guy, had nothing good to say about the current FAA MIDO supervision in Minneapolis. Got the story on why it is so hard to get a DAR or an FAA guy to show up.
One remaining DAR is a retired fed who has a bad rep. He makes extra money by finding something wrong and leaving (even if it's something minor that can be easily and quickly corrected) requiring you to pay him again to return at a later date.
I've heard only good things about Trent. I just need Minnesota to allow a ND DAR. (Shouldn't be a problem)

Jeff Holter worked for Cirrus. He was a DAR a few years ago. As far as I know, he is still around. He lives in Duluth or Superior. Jim Chuk

Did you find a DAR yet? Also, can you use anyone from the Fargo FSDO for references? My reason for asking, I was attending a recent 'WINGS' session and the guy from Fargo was there, I think he mentioned a guy in this area that is a DAR. If it is the guy I know, he used to work at Bemidji and also had his own aviation business for a time. He had done the annual on my floated Champ. Very nice guy and easy to get along with.

Good info Keith, I'd like his contact info for the future.
Wishing your wife a speedy recovery!

Marcus,
Thanks, she is doing as expected, first couple of days at home have been spent in the bed resting. She seems to be almost normal now (LOL, if a wife is ever normal).
I will this guy a call and make sure that he is in fact a DAR. If he is, I will definitely let you know. I may have heard the FAA guy wrong though, since I think he gave out other information that wasn't 100% correct.

Hopefully nothing serious with your engine, got it pinned down? It will be quite awhile yet before I'm ready, but building is resuming in earnest this week after numerous distractions.
