Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
It's hard to believe that it was economically viable considering the extent of the damage and logistics. But it's nice to see the poor ole bird brought back into service.

I'm amazed that recovery in Antarctica was viable. I'm also impressed as can be with whoever was in charge of logistics. Each pound they took with them probably cost an arm and a leg, and yet if you are missing anything, you can't just have Aircraft Spruce express mail it to you. Planning the materials and tools needed to accomplish this task with all the things that could and would go wrong is an impressive feat! Wow!

Wow this is a coincidence. 2 days ago I watched a climbing film at the Banff Film Festival world tour, and the expedition used one of their DC3's to get there. I was like wow that's the same plane until I watched the DC3 video and see they have more than one painted that way.
For anyone interested here is a link to the films trailer:

That was spectacular work! Way to go crew!
(despite the cost, it just does the heart good to see a Gooney salvaged and still playing in the game)

It was a Basler BT-67.
If it was a Basic DC-3, C-40something, they probably would have wrote it off!
Sad, but true…. Good story though.

I think my Air drill get cold enough on its own without having to have it sitting on a wing outside in the Antarctic... Burrrr

Not only the rivets, but all that wiring? I can't imagine how nervous I'd be when firing that up for the first time...
