As of April 4th Death Valley National Park is CLOSED including Furnace Creek Air Strip, Stove Pipe Wells Air Strip and The Chicken Strip. A week or so ago the Superintendent closed camp grounds and some other things, but now its a total shut down, The main highways through the Park will remain open to through traffic and the gas stations will remain open with partial service. I received this information from the Chief Ranger today.

I'm no longer within one fuel-stop of the CS, but a friend of mine was thinking of going there to sit out some of the pandemic. I told him that was a real, Real crap idea. There aren't a lot of people at the springs, but you can usually hear two or three or five different languages being spoken around the pools. It's a very international place to go, albeit in low numbers.

Your right Hammer. Because so many are home now and getting board, Death Valley National Park and most all national parks have been overwhelmed with visitors. This I was told is the reason why they went from a partial shut down to a complete shut down.

I personally will be self quarantining in a few days out in the desert when the weather gets a little better.

Majorly illegal closing airports. Yeah, they can close parking lots, I suppose, but not the runways. How are they going to stop you from landing at Chicken Strip? Maybe they can harass you at the springs, but short of illegally placing logs across the strip.... It is just the flu, people.

Depends on whether the particular airstrip has ever been allocated federal AIP funds. I don’t know whether this one has, but being inside a Park, I’d doubt it.

And if not, they can close it any time for “public safety” reasons. As to enforcement.....that’s why they have enforcement rangers.

Chicken strip is fairly remote. Doubt they have a guy out there trying to chase away airplanes. As to enforcement, doubt they could copy down N numbers and prosecute. Right now a lot of governments are pushing taking away liberty and trying to see what they can get away with. Civil disobedience is called for.

They are leaving ours open. However they have held the concessionaire off until July which effectively closes the lodge for the season. Cruise ships are also out. Yet, NPS is still bringing in “essential” seasonal workers from God knows where to do who knows what. Needless to say the non-gov employed folks are very unhappy right now with the decision making process. NPS has a “plan”, but has yet to share it with the rest of us. We have a 2 room clinic and a ANP. A hang nail is a trip to Juneau.

The caretaker at the springs just walks down the airstrip and tosses large whitewashed rocks that delineate the edges of the strip onto the strip to prevent landing. When the strip is open, he goes back and replaces them on the edges. Common practice when the strip washes out with summer rains.

Pick your civil disobedience battles well. This ones a five star international and national loser for GA to engage in by ALL measures. Darn near every county in the US is likely to have skin in the COVID problem. IOW, find something else to channel outrage until after the COVID problem is resolved.

I guess the conspiracy theory season started early this year. I thought it was usually after Easter...no?

In any event I'm glad someone is standing up to this egregious attempt to save lives by those so called "scientists" and "doctors", who...and this is a fact...get most of their information from research that doesn't include facebook! I know, I know...but it's true.

And yet these so called "experts" who have done nothing but spend an average of ten years in higher education prior to working in their profession, are able to influence our government, even if they don't even have a social media presence.

I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. Just think of all the effort that's being diverted from making chemtrails by this pandemic hoax...

So not being an expert or trained on the science of this virus I have to ask. Is it ok for my wife and myself who sleep in the same bed and are with each other constantly to walk out to the hangar in the back yard and go flying? Is it ok if we stop and get self serve fuel if we sanitize the keypad and nozzle before and after we use the pumps? Is that ok? If not, is it ok if I do the same thing solo without my wife? I promise I wont land a national park airstrip.

Exactly - it is an aviation site and you should be outraged that a runway your tax dollars paid for can be illegally shutdown. As far as unconstitutional stay in place orders or inaccurate disease models and false death causes I won't waste my breath. Do your own research. When a crisis comes up, the tyrants sure come out of the closets.

Having medical experience/knowledge is not the same thing as being qualified to set public policy
