Denver/Colorado Area Meet and Greet - CO18-11/24 930-1130

We did one in the spring but the weather didn't cooperate well, so let's try it in the fall. Would love to see a bunch of folks fly in for a few hours of socializing.

Who: Everyone who wants to come and join. (Drive-ins welcome but don't drive on the airstrip/PM me for directions).
What: Tailwheels and the occasional nose wheel. :-)
When: Saturday November 24th 9:30am-11:30am.
Where: CO18 - Chaparral (WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED/SUBMITTED PRIOR!) http://flycolorado.org/index.php/airstr ... ral-kiowa/
Why: It's been too long.

We're going to keep it simple for planning purposes. Donuts and Cider provided.

If the airstrip is covered in snow and/or muddy, our alternate will be Front Range (KFTG). If the weather is poor all around, be safe and make the decision as PIC. If it's IFR and/or a bilzzard, we'll cancel via this thread the day prior (11/23).

All the info for the airstrip is in the flycolorado.org link listed above. Once again, waiver MUST BE SUBMITTED prior. Orlo is a great guy who likes to see people use his airstrip, lets be safe and respectful. Freq: 122.90. Bring tie downs please.

Questions, please ask! Hope to see you there.

Champ down for MOH; try to borrow my old SC, hitch a ride with a Husky or just drive. Thanks for putting this on.

On my calendar! I won't be flying in myself, but will either bum a ride out of FTG or just drive up.

Re: Denver/Colorado Area Meet and Greet - CO18 - 11/24/18

I'm excited to hear so many of you are planning on coming. Should be a great time if weather cooperates.

The airstrip owner asked me to emphasize that all pattern operations should be west of centerline (right traffic for Rwy 17 and left traffic for Rwy 35). There's one neighbor to the west that is concerned about low overflights.

Re: Denver/Colorado Area Meet and Greet - CO18 - 11/24/18

My IA is supposed to finally get to my airplane's annual this weekend. If it's done and the weather's good, I'll fly down. If it's not done and the weather's good, I'll drive down. If the weather's bad, I'll wait till the Spring version. Gosh I'm getting wimpy as I approach 3/4 century of living!

With the possibility of several driving, Matt, you might want to post driving directions here.

For those wanting to drive. The airstrip is accessed by a series of dirt roads that aren't exactly marked well, but if you google the following address it will get you close enough to the airstrip to find the entry road.
21669 Way of Joy, Deer Trail, CO 80105

I'm keeping an eye on the weather as it looks like snow moves into the area at some point on Saturday. If the morning is good VFR I may change the times, but if it is forecast to be poor all day, I'll cancel the meet and greet. I'll post any changes here on Thursday so everyone can plan accordingly.

Wouldn’t you want right traffic to 35, and left traffic to 17 to stay east of centerline???

Although i do have business in Denver the week after this and wanted to fly over and make this event, I think the uncertainty of the weather will keep me on the airlines #-o

Hopefully it works out for everybody!

Re: Denver/Colorado Area Meet and Greet - CO18 - 11/24/18

Bart, thanks for double checking me! The correct traffic pattern is to stay west of centerline (right for rwy 17 and left for rwy 35).

Would love to see you fly over if it allows, but wintertime over the Rockies is sure hit and miss.

Maybe it’s because I’m on my phone but I don’t see an “E Waiver” tab?

Sometimes the e-waiver tab doesn't play well on mobile applications. It should work fine from a computer.

Here's a visual of the preferred traffic pattern for the N/S runway and the house to avoid:
Image

If winds favor RWY 11/29 - Runway 11 has a significant uphill grade and is best for landing only. Takeoff 29 downhill. Using the runway in this configuration naturally avoids the noise sensitive area.

Re: Denver/Colorado Area Meet and Greet - CO18-11/24 930-113

Well I hate to do this, but I'm changing the times for the fly-in to 9:30am-11:30am (I'll show up around 9am). The weather for the afternoon is just not cooperating with high winds and rain/snow starting as early as 1pm.

I know this may exclude some, and I apologize in advance. I hope a handful can still make it. Please bring tie downs as winds in the afternoon are foreacst to gust up to 40+ mph.

As MTNWEST stated, landing is preferred on 17/35 as 29 has a significant downhill slope. West winds are forecast up to 15 mph in the morning, so it may be a direct crosswind for landing. Takeoff on runway 29 is fine.

Let me know if you have questions and please spead the word.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Still no airplane--hopefully my IA has been working on it so I'll get it back soon. Not sure I want to get up early enough to drive down--been having sleep troubles since having to put Molly to sleep a couple of weeks ago. Hope those who come have fun, and I may drive down.

Been up since 0330 with my daughter, she's pretty sick so I'm staying home today. Maybe next time! Been too long since I've seen most of ya!

Sorry to hear about Molly Cary. Hope your daughter feels better soon Tadpole.

Thanks everyone for coming out. We ended up with 8 planes and pretty good weather during the morning. A fun get together and it was great to meet some new faces. We'll have to do it again in the spring and hope for better weather. The front moved through around 1pm and it sure turned nasty quick.
