Disney's Planes

Just went to see Planes with the wife. Think we were the only ones there without kids. Found it quite entertaining, but I am also a fan of a lot of Pixar stuff.

The flying in the movie was more accurate, in terms of physics, than that stupid looking Red Tails movie. I could never even bring myself to see that thing when I saw that promo of the P51 doing a loop in about 2.5 plane lengths at 25k feet. The flying in this even looked better and less CGI-ey than Red Tails. There were some shots that looked like a go-pro mounted on the fuselage that looked really really cool too.

Spoiler Alert:

When one of the planes asked if they think they can fix Dusty, and Dottie says "Does a PT6A have a multi stage comressor?!", I shouted "yes it does!" in a dead silent theater, and my wife started laughing at me until she actually started crying.

Good show!

With you on the PT6 comment! I said yes! (I have lots of 208 time)

My kids loved it, almost as much as I did.

Re: Disney's Planes

I've been waiting forever to take my daughter to this. I can't stand lots of people so we are waiting till Monday afternoon. I'm super excited; will be her first movie.

Today I discovered that I'm raising her right. We ran out to the airport for a quick second and as we were leaving she said, "Dad, I want to go flying." Awesome.

Bummed- Hoping it might stay on the big screen long enough to see it there this fall, but doubt it. Will probably have to wait for it to come out on Net Flicks.

Saw it at OSH--very definitely worth seeing, with or without kids. Lots of adultish humor, typical of Pixar films like Cars and Cars II, with plenty for the kids, too. Oh, and the producer who introduced it at OSH said that already there's a Planes II in the works.

We were waiting forever also, and it was our son's (3 yo) first movie. He was totally engrossed, to the point where he covered his eyes and started to cry when he thought Dusty was going to get hurt

There were a couple of times I thought they could've done a bit more to develop the story, but overall, I think anything that gets aviation into the public spotlight in a positive manner is a win for all of us. I liked how they include historical tidbits here and there, there were also hints of Lindbergh's crossing and Amelia Earhart's last flight.

I took Adam and Sadie to see it Friday. We all loved it. They say it's a drop in replacement for Cars...good thing we've never seen Cars! Glad to hear there will be another one!

Still see Cars and Cars II--you'll love 'em and so will your kids. They're not the same story, although there is some "be a good person and you'll be rewarded" message in all of them.
